So I yielded to temptation and got this album...your opinions?

For me, it was fairly inaccessible at first, but I gave it 3 spins, and now I think its one of their better albums...5 stars. Kamelot live up to the expectations again.

Boring as hell if you ask me (I listened to the thing a good 15 times). I love (and own) their last four but their "hit" streak ends there as far as I'm concerned. Too much flower, not enough metal.:erk:

It may be their best album. I love it immensely. It will probably be my favourite album of them in time. The sound, the atmosphere is fantastic. Khan begins to change his vocal style (or his voice mutated) from "power" style to a darker one giving more gothic feeling rather than epic mostly; especially beginning with Epica. The Black Halo clearly underscores this change; but it is almost perfect in Ghost Opera. They are more conscise, and the harmony&power of the album's mixing and the tones of the instruments are far more better than before. Shortly, the sound production is fantastic. I don't like their guitar solos most of the time, but this album is slightly better than the previous ones in this sense too. Lastly, it seems that the fact that they don't have a session keyboardist anymore shows its positive effects also...

I'll directly buy this awesome album the day it'll be released.

As far as vocals go, I was pretty interested with the way he sang 'Blücher' (if that's the name).

But yes, its less heavy, more 'gothic'. Probably the reason why it took me awhile to like it, as I despise Gothic Metal (except for Nightwish). But now, I feel its better than both Epica and Karma, although not as good as The Black Halo or The Fourth Legacy, which are my favorites.

Nightwish is not gothic metal. It's just plainly awful.

Its Weird, i Love Kamelot and this is an album i will probably not buy, which is sad cuz i was looking foward to this.

I just hope Romeo and Friends pull a Masterpiece out of there asses cuz alot of bands have been Dissapointing so far this year.

Overall, I give the album a 7/10. It's good, but The Human Stain, Love You To Death and the last 2 songs are REALLY boring. They completely lost me with those songs.

These songs will seem to attract the emo-goth teenage girls, but hey i also like them either :D This album is not totally metal I know; yet anyway I think it's great. In my perspective, Kamelot stops to create "hit" songs, or metal hits and acoustic ones with The Black Halo; instead they more focus on creating a sloid and harmonious atmosphere and songs that carry a half-conceptual air among each other. Their last hit was Center Of The Universe I think. (When the Lights Are Down and Soul Society are half-hits for me) Anyway, Ghost Opera, especially with its vocal melodies, sound and atmosphere, is an awesome album.

I actually really like "Love You to Death", although "Blucher" is my favorite song right now. Not everything has to be hard as hell and sound metal to the bone. Spread your musical taste and give it a chance. I really hated Death Metal and Doom metal a couple months ago, but my friend turned me on to "I" and I like them A LOT.

I like it. But it's lacking the epic melody arrangements that their other recent albums were soaked with...

ps nightwish blows

Well, they continue to defy logic for me:p ....OK, guilty pleasure, although I don't listen to them much nowadays.

This album is OK, really. I am not really too fussed about the 'heaviness', heck, Angra's 'Holy Land' is a masterpiece, and quite frankly, I wouldn't call it Heavy Metal at all. Its just that Kamelot tried something new, and somewhat succeeded, so hats off to them.

Doesnt matter how metal it is, i'd love if if was a rock album and good, its just a boring metal album but i only listened twice, im giving it another go now and i love the first song.

EXACTLY! like they always have like 6 or 7 AMAZING songs and then like 3 or 4 okay ones, this is all like Filler, maybe like 2 or 3 killer IMO, I still cannot wait to see them in NYC this summer though.
