I wan't to start off with a disclaimer. I am not a power metal fan. I like power metal for sure, but I hardly know any of the bands and I am too busy with my other music. However, I saw this and since I liked kamelot's previous work, I figured I'd like this one as well. With that out of the way, In my humble opinion, this is the greatest CD kamelot has ever released and it dwarfs just about any other releases this year so far. Mabye it doesn't own everything, but it is top 10 material for sure.
This album is massively orchestrated compared to previous releases. The have a string section and they have a choral section. Whoever plays the violen has my kudos, since they play it very emotionally and violen is a really hard instrument. This violen player is showcased at the beginning of the album. Following it, the entire band comes in with the next five songs, which are all memorable. My personal favorites are love you to death and the human stain. Blucher deserves special mention due to their odd electronics they employ. Following love you to death, there are good songs and great songs, instead of all great songs. I like the mourning bell and silence of the darkness, which is a sort of re take on when the lights are down. The last song, edenecho, is as memorable and catchy as they come.
This CD is so good that I end up singing along. THat isn't a good thing, because my voice is not meant to sing those, but I can't help it. This CD FORCES me to sing along, whether I want to or not. It is that good.
9.5/10
