katatonia's best album

Depends on what Katatonia you have heard/are expecting. If you've heard the softer stuff with clean vocals, all of the last three Katatonia albums are an excellent place to start (Discouraged Ones, Tonight's Decision, Last Fair Deal Gone Down). If you've heard the growling side, then I reccomend Brave Murder Day, an absolute masterpiece (considered their best album by a lot of fans). Check out these songs:
Brave
Murder
Right into the Bliss
Deadhouse
Teargas
Sulfur

i'd suggest a trip to http://www.mp3.com/katatoniadotcom ... they've got a song or 2 at least from each release, see what you like best! my personal favorites would be any of the last 3 albums, and tonight's decision does have the added bonus of having the most gorgeous album artwork in existence, but download some songs and see what you like :) enjoy!

Tonight's Decision - it was my first and then this band i knew nothing about became my favourite band, so it might be an idea to get it, if only you lived in England you could get it for £8.99 with bonus tracks...see if you can find that version/price too, maybe on the peacville site or something.

anywho d/l a few tracks as elric said and get what you think sounds best.

I'd second this suggestion.

A couple of days ago I also realised that Katatonia is actually one of the very few bands who have actually never let me down with any of their albums... They have not released a bad or disappointing album, they're all excellent :).

Absolutely agreed!

I totally agree, every one of their releases is
99% better than most other stuff that is out
there now.
JEM even has some good stuff on it if you can find it.
I bought the vinyl from Hiberica.
Each cd has its own feel and is fairly different from the
rest.
I would buy them all. Hock your girl or sell your kids,
just get them all. You will not be disappointed with
any of them.
My favorite Katatonia album is the one that is playing
at the moment.LFDGD is on the player even as we
speak.
'What is wrong , not with the world but me."
kick ass

I'd go even further and say that Katatonia have never even made a disappointing song. Anders have always had that ability to write very good music. And Jonas' lyrics are of same quality.:D

in order of my favorites:
1.)tonights decision
2.) discouraged ones
3.) last fair deal gone down
4.)brave murder day
5.)dance of december souls

(also my 5 favorites albums of all time, with the exception of a few in flames, sentenced, and opeth.)

I really didn't say this as some blind "I'll like anything if it's Katatonia" fanboy, I really mean this. Other favourite bands of mine, like Dark Tranquillity, Opeth, In Flames, Anathema and many more have all one or two albums in their roster that I don't really like as much as the others.

F.ex. DT "Projector", Opeth "MAYH", IF last 3 albums (new one included), Anathema "AFDTE" all lacked the magic element I liked about those bands. But Katatonia don't have any of those "less good" albums, they made quite a dramatic style-change, but kept up the quality level throughout. I honestly don't have a favourite Katatonia album, they're all good... And with the news about the new album's direction in mind this is not likely to change...

Hardly any band I know has done that, except Sentenced maybe, though their last album ain't that brilliant i.m.o., but you can't have everything, eh??

Projector is definatly my favourite DT album, and therefore they have never dissapointed me. Neither have Katatonia of course.

Well, much discussion on the DT board has proved that the clean vocals on Projector are really a case of "love it or hate it", I just never got used to them... "The Mind's I" is another DT album I don't care that much about, has a few nice songs, but really lacked the depth and magic of The Gallery.

I.M.O. that is...

Well,

All katatonia's album are really good to heard...
For the new ones who like growls i recommend BRAVE MURDER DAY or DANCE OF DECEMBER SOULS...
And for the ones who prefer clean voice, i recommend TONIGHT'S DECISION or the last one...

Anyway KATATONIA rules for ever...

Hope to see you again live guyz !!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Cheers

hey, ormir, i know i broke your balls sometimes before, but let me say that projector is my dt's favourite album too. of course, i should say to madtinus that i don't find any weak album in opeth's discography.

about katatonia: the first stuff i heard was brave murder day, and i liked it at a first "sight". but i have to say that imo dance of december souls is much better, better that any other release. except for the song "scarlet heavens", which is long & experimental, and i love experimental stuff.
