KING DIAMOND's manager Ole Bang has released the following statement regarding the cancellation of the band's North American tour (as first reported by BLABBERMOUTH.NET yesterday):

"Most regretfully we have to announce that King will not be able to tour North America as planned.

"King has over the past six months been suffering from a herniated disc in the spine, and has still not recovered to a satisfactory level.

"He was prescribed absolute rest for several months, and this appears to be more than half a year.

"Following several visits to specialists and most recent MRI scan, we have to realize that his condition need far more rest than expected in the first place. At the moment he can neither walk for more than an hour at a time, nor can he sit like you would do in a normal daily life; i.e. there is no chance that he will fully recover in time for the tour start in March.

"We deeply regret the inconvenience caused for everyone involved, for promoters, bands and fans; and most of all we're very very sorry that we can not go out and perform for the fans who have been waiting for the tour to kick off.

"Unfortunately life is unpredictable, and it's completely out of our hands when illness kicks in, and no medicine, how harsh it might have been, can cure the situation. If anything could remedy the situation it would have been done, but for now we simply just have to wait, and let King get the much-needed rest.

"I will post news about any developments as soon as it's available.

"At this time we will also like to say thanks for all the kind words of a speedy recovery we have received."

KING DIAMOND's North American headlining tour was scheduled to launch March 23 in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, and run through May 8 in Houston.

King recently told MTV.com about his injury, "I can't sit down, even on my couch, for more than a few minutes. About [two months ago] I tried, and after 15 minutes, it started feeling like my left leg was getting set on fire."

"It can take up to a year and a half for a severe herniated disc to heal properly, but it varies from person to person," he added. "Right now there's not much more we can do."

Diamond got a taste of what might happen if he hits the road too soon in September when director Bill Schacht from video company Aestheticom — which has also worked with AMON AMARTH — shot a video for "Give Me Your Soul", the first KING DIAMOND clip in 17 years. "They limited what I had to do, of course, so I only did one day of shooting for 90 minutes, but just standing there moving a little bit in the full outfit was very difficult," he said. "And afterwards, I got one of those sharp attacks of pain that I hadn't had in a month and a half. The only thing I can compare it to is a really super-bad toothache or earache. And afterwards, I was like, 'OK, I'm not ready [to tour] yet.' "

Regarding how he injured his back, the 51-year-old singer said, "I think the real damage happened mixing the record, because I did that three weeks straight for a minimum of 12 hours a day. One of the last nights, when I was going to bed, I felt these pains in the sciatic nerves on each side, and I thought, 'Oh what is this?' The next morning I woke up and I couldn't walk or stand. It was like being paralyzed. I can't begin to say how painful it was. They say that's the worst pain you can experience as a human being. Had I not lived on the ground floor in a house, I would have jumped out the window."

yeah =(

I just hope he gets healthy soon. My dad has had back issues like that, and it is very hard.

<waits for Zod to say 'Can't they just get Nils to fill in?'>

"Let me help You out of the chair...
Grandma'
Let me touch You, let me feel... Ahhh"

Thats what King gets for molesting his poor grandma...

Seriously though, my dad went through something similar and this takes a long time to heal, hopefully he'll get better by next summer...Hail the King!

OH Crap crap crap!

I do hope that he gets better. Back injuries suck. I still have to wonder why they won't do surgery to fix this. It would fix the problem with about an hour surgery. Unless he is opting not to for personal reasons.

Well, I'm bummed that this is canceled, but I hope he heals well.

On the plus side, no sitting through a horrible Leaves Eyes performance again :puke:

I love Leaves' Eyes. Too bad some of you here can't stand them. I say, what's not to love about the band?!

Yeah I had a feeling that this was going to happen. A back injury is the worst kind of injury to have, take a while to heal. Must wait even longer to see the King!

Let's hope the King has a full recovery. I remember when he played at BB Kings 2 years ago. He was very sick for several weeks, and had to cancel several shows (The Troc in Philly was one of them.) He blew the lid off the place, even though his voice was at 50%. The back, unfortunately, is a horse of another color. I would not expect the King to perform before 2009.

Major bummer as I have a ticket for the Jaxx show on March 29th (www.jaxxroxx.com for Jaxx's website).

I also saw that the other three bands will headline their own show like two days after the King Diamond show. I wonder what will happen now. Will they cancel the whole show on March 29th or will they just have the same line up as on March 31st (which is the date Kreator/Cellador/Leave's Eye only show). If they do, I hope they at least give those of us that bought a ticket a refund of some kind (as the Kreator show was only $17 vs the $30 for the King Diamond show). I'd still love to at least have the option go to a Kreator show on the 29th (especially being on a Saturday night). As the Jaxx site has not been updated yet, I'll have to wait and see what happens (my gut feeling is that whole thing is canceled on the 29th and refunds issued, with the suggestion that if still want to see the other three bands, go buy a ticket for and go to the March 31st show, which will kinda suck as that is a Monday night show)

Anyway, sucks to miss King Diamond, especially as I've never seen him live before, however, sounds like he is truly living a life of misery right now. I could only begin to imagine (thankfully, I've never had to experience anything like that, but with the way I beat myself up while skiing sometimes, especially the knees). Not even being able to sit down on his own couch - that is brutal.

I can only wish him well. I wonder if this may end up being it for King Diamond performances.

Please don't tell me that's what that song is talking about. :ill: I'd rather just stay cluless and enjoy the music.....

The tour will most likely continue with the other three.

JAXX is already advertising a headlining KREATOR gig with Celladoor and Leave's Eyes.

That was already booked before this announcement, in a "hole" in the KD tour. I suspect both may be canceled, unless Kreator takes over headlining on the original dates, and then the 31st will probably not happen...

UPDATE!! I just checked Jaxx's website:

BOTH DATES ARE CANCELLED!

Thus no King Diamond, NOR Kreator! DAMN IT!

Oh well, guess the next time I am at Jaxx, I'll go get my $30 back for the ticket I bought.

DAMMIT.
Well...I woud love to see Kreator and Cellador...

...but Leaves' Eyes are just awful.
Someone mentioned what's not to love about them?
Well, nothing...if your music of choice happens to keep up on cliches as they occur and masks the abysmal vocal talent of both parties with graduation robes, corsets a la Frederick's of Hollywood and uberlong hair.
I watched them open for Blind Guardian through the bottom of my pint glass.
It was horrendous.

I'll still go see the other two bands...besides, a certain guitar player owes me about $100 in reciprocal drinks.
