I have a Hotplate and only used it for a dummy load about 3 times for trying impulses with my Rev. Works great as a dummy load. Used for attenuation...........................not so good a result. Sucks tone pretty hard.
TBH I don't remember. It was about 2 yeaars ago from Hydes, so no doubt I paid too much I will try and find the receipt tomorrow. Need some sleep now, COD World at War is damn addictive, it's way past my bedtime.
I have tried both on those 3 or so occasions. I really didn't spend enough time trying it out though and wasn't that impressed wth the results from the Rev compared to mic'ing the cab. If you use the effect send the Master Vol has to be set WAY too high to get a useable signal (near Max). If you use the Line Out, it is hotter, but the result (using an impulse of the same position as the mic'd clip) doesn't sound the same as mic'ing the cab (double-poweramp usage screwing things up?). The Line Out sounds quite different than the Effect send in comparison when an impulse is applied and not closer to a mic'd clip. As I said these are my observations after only a few tests. If you work with it for longer the result may be better. It is easier for me to mic the cab than to play around with Line/Effect out's, etc...
