Load Box / attenuator.

Hi, I recently bought a new amp, a peavey 6505+ 112 combo.
The purpose of this purchase was to use it like a head, so I've been told (on this forum actually) that I'd need a dummy load to use it without the cab.

Even though there's a bunch of help about how to create a cheap one, me and a friend, studying electronics, were planning to do one.
As I'm in trouble to find the good stuff to do it, and as I'd like to get an attenuator too I'm really wondering if I shouldn't get the "real gear" for this now.

I heard a lot about THD Hotplates, and I found two that I can buy for approximately 200euros (one at 8ohm, the other one at 16).
But as I look on thomann I see there's more attenuator, and I don't know if the thd are the best, is attenuating a 60watt amp at -12db enough ? (I saw some stuff going lower than that.

So my questions are :
Should I keep on creating a load box, or hurry getting one of the hotplate I found (or another load box.)

Thanks in advance for your help, I'm really getting annoyed with this.
