i think that guitar gear is all i talk about...it prolly gets old, and this is off-topic...but anyway...I GOT ONE!!!! i was looking into them before i ever played them, but i would have felt like a tool if i bought one without playing one just because my favorite band uses them. then i played one. $299 used!!!!!!!!!!! what the fuck were they thinking....its a thousand dollar amp brand new...i traded in my fucking marshall dsl50 and made an extra 70 bucks. fuck!! it seriously is the most beautiful sounding amp in its price range. the clean tone on damnation is achievable if one has this amp. if anyone ever gets the chance to purchase one of these, do!!!! i'm pumped...i have a tendency to sweat when i play it.
 
aww.. record something now because i want to hear what the pure tone is out of that amp. you got a steal for 300.. where did you buy it at?
 
On the topic of amplifiers. I am going to be in the market for one fairly soon & i was thinking of getting a Marshall (Mainly from using my friends & finding the sound they can produce, Quite fantastic).

Has anyone got some suggestions for a good quality, Yet affordable Marshall amplifier?
 
I have a Marshall Valvestate series and I can tell you to steer well away from those. The best tone I have ever achieved actually was from an ME-50 pedal right into the clean channel of a Marshall MGDFX100. Beware, those things have very nasty on-board gain, yet when you mix it with an outside effects box, you can get some marvelous tone out of it... truly marvelous.

Thanks for the information, I will have to furtherly look for some information on those Marshall MGDFFX100 amplifiers.

Just by geussing, Do you think i could develop an alright tone with a combination of one those amplifiers & a Zoom 505 II Effects Pedal?
 
People. Get the Line 6 Spider 2 212. Seriously, the first model may have been utter shit but this more than makes up for it. The tone is pure sweetness. Forget the Vortex, my guitarist wanted to purchase it from a friend but he played on a Spider 2 212 and never looked back when he handed over the cash for the amp.

It's probably the best modelling amp that's pretty affordable.

The Laney VC30 is wicked as well, I played on it once and it had pretty nice tones. No flabby bottom end, jsut thick tone.
 
Now that i think of it, A Laney amplifier could be a possible alternative to a Marshall. I have heard rather good things about these amplifiers.

Can anyone suggest any good quality, Yet affordable Laney amps?
 
VC50.. thats what im trying to gather money for, but a couple other things stand in the way. Also, the spider 2 sucks balls. I played one about a month ago at a guitar store and the cleans are good, but distortion sucks with all line6 amps. I HATE LINE6. True tube tone is only aquired with a tube amp.
 
I'm not big on Laney amps. All the models I've played on have done nothing for me in the slightest. The Vortex, considering the fact that its solid state and extremely affordable for a half stack ($700 USD) can get some really nice on-board tones.

Although unless you're going for raw tube power, then I'd suggest mixing an effects processor or stompbox with any rig you get.

A warning about the MGDFX100: The on-board gain channel sounds like total ass. I played one with my ME and it was the best tone I'd ever had, yet when I played without the pedal, it was one of the nastiest sounds I've ever had. Just something to keep in mind there.
 
the vortex halfstack has a decent tone, yepp. but it's not really able to handle slightly distorted stuff. highgain or clean that is what it is made for me. and dont really know how you can compare it to a line6 modelling amp tho.
 
All of the solid state amps i have played just dont cut it. They have to accell in pure cleans, slight overdrive, and all out distortion. If one doesnt make it, i could care less about the amp. If i am going to invest in an amp, i need to get all the tones out of it that i need, and if that means a higher cost, then so be it. Laneys tend to get alot of praise for their tonal versatility, which is what im leaning forward to. Tube amps have great cleans, good overdrive, and very good distortion. I havent heard any solid state or hybrid amps that can compete.

i bought it at a local music store...i figured something was wrong with it, but it played just fine. it definetely has a special feel to it that is very recognizable. that is the class A speaking. it is so squishy and compressed...it tends to exaggerate the qualities of tone. it just sings...notice on damnation...when they hit a single string, it seems to almost swell a little bit with a nice warm sustain???....thats what it does, and it melts me. and it roars on the drive channel with my tubescreamer plugged in. i plugged my 4x12 1960 cab into it, and it screamed bloody murder through that. thats right...a 30 watt amp driving 6 12's...but it did run a bit hot...i think i'm going to sell my 4x12 and go for a 2x12 with some vintage 30s...it will be beautiful. i am still in shock that i bought that thing for 300, let alone finding one in the state of nebraska.

That ''Laney VC-50'' amplifier looks pretty good. But are there any Laney/ Marshall amplifiers that are about 3/4-1/2 smaller than that & are still good quality? Beause I don't think i am really in need of an amplifier of such power, Especially when I have only been playing guitar since January.
 
I'd love to get myself a higher-end tube amp, but to face the facts, I just don't have the money at this time. Whilst I'd love to be able to save and wait, my situation happens to be that my current amp is fucking up on me and I need a strong replacement soon.

I understand this, But it is just going to be hard to purchase a Laney amplifier because there are hardly any music stores in my area which stock them. So I mighten be able to test one out.

How come you do not recommend a Marshall amplifier?
 
They are not versatile. If you are a fan of early thrash metal like Sepultura and want to recreate that kind of tone, then that's all Marshalls are really good for. I'm using one now and I'm fairly happy with that trademark sound it has.... but as stated, there is no versatility. That's where the Laneys are apparently meant to excell.
