Ok, so a while ago I bought the Pro Studio Laptop from Jim at Studiocat. 3.2ghz i7 950 desktop processor in the Clevo D900F shell, 6gb DDR3, 500gb HD, two 128gb Solid Slate Drives, NVIDIA GTX 1gb, and WIndows 7 x64..Most of the time, the thing is a beast, and works beautifully. The problem is that, now and again, it just totally freaks out and crashes/freezes, sometimes the screen goes haywire for an instant.

Now before I go on, let me just say I am in no way trying to speak ill of Studiocat, Jim, or his products. He has been more than accommodating, helpful, and understanding. We just couldn't pinpoint the issue, and I figured before I bother him again, see if any of you guys have experienced a similar problem that has been rectified, to spare the effort of troubleshooting via telephone (bleh).

From what I have deduced, it happens primarily when playing audio, more times than not in iTunes or Guitar Pro, sometimes while playing a game, so generally when playing audio, although it can happen when just wielding the mouse around. The annoying thing is it's unpredictable, and inconsistent. I've gone a few weeks with no problems, thinking I've solved the issue magically, then I hit the spacebar in Reaper/iTunes/Guitar Pro (after using it for any amount of time) and ::sputter sputter death::. Sometimes the audio will continue to play for a few seconds, sometimes when running through my Liquid Saffire it pops and the FW active flickers.

Did that on two different occasions. Did a Memtest, checked out the drivers, to no avail. Everything checked out. I've been meaning to call Jim back, but I figured I'd see if anyone had a similar experience first, or any ideas as to what the issue may be. Like I said, it is very random, and inconsistent in how it crashes/freezes up. Maddening. Anybody?

Ok you didnt say what sound card your using.alot of times on board can be troublesome.Windows 7 can be at times glitchy thats why i stick to xp 64.Anyway atleast check the irq and whats assigned to what.If all else fails try like a audigy pcima card for the laptop....worth a try see if a difference.Freezes and lock can happen from onboard devices. And you have a pretty beasty laptop. In bios if your not overclocking and stuff might wanna try default settings.I hope this helps all else fails man go back to xp 64 atleast its a solid os on pc!!!:kickass:

p.s. i see ur on mbox mini now u can narrow it down run it and then run on board see whats poppin from there!!!try all mbox drivers till no issues might take some tweaking.

I actually only use my Mbox when I need to use Pro Tools. I use my Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56 through a firewire express card. I originally thought that to be the problem, but alas it happened when just running of internal speakers w/o the card in. XP has always been my go to system until I got this laptop. I figured I had to catch up with the times, being I avoided Vista like the damn plague.

I'm starting to think it may be the video card, being that the screen can do some REALLY bizarre things, or just freeze up. When Jim ordered the shell they stopped putting in the card I have and started using a far more expensive card, and he had to special order. Is there a way to check it for errors? I've spent some time "trying" to make it crash, as in doing things I suspect to be the catalyst for it freaking out, but never when I'm expecting it heh.

Thanks man, I'll do some more investigating later.
