Depends what you mean by right.

You can earn bajillions of dollars by making really good music that lots of people like, or by convincing them they like it through advertising. There is a great deal of good mainstream music, but there is also a lot of unlistenable garbage in there too which is popular because it is perceived to be popular.

That's not a comment on Incubus since I've never heard them, and I couldn't care less about their profile or whether other people like them since that's petty.

I agree. You have to understand mainstream music and the money factor. Advertising is huge with all these major corporations.

Incubus does have talent though and pretty deserve to be in the spotlight in their respective genre. Not sure about their newer albums, but their earlier albums had some cool tunes. I'm not a big fan of them anymore though because I find their songs to be too poppy.

The world has come to this:

Some people are not as pretentious as others desperately try to be.

Right in that they are incredibly successful at what they do.

So any bands that's able make bajillions of dollars must be being successful? Well yes... any band that is successful is of course successful.

My point was that being successful and writing good music are different things, and being successful doesn't imply you've done anything to deserve it.

And others are without even trying...

That's inevitable on a prog board. For reasons unknown, some people feel that non-prog music is somehow inferior, and that those who enjoy it must have a screw loose.

Ignorance astounds.

Assumtion and sterotyping astounds too !

You sort of contradict yourself when you call someone pretentious.. because that would make you pretentious by pointing that out lol

Hmm, example: Ulver for instance, their musicianship and the myriad of genres they explore if far beyond that of most and probably any "mainstream" group, and they probably aren't even known by many people at all. That's why I don't like mainstream music, it's made for kids who aren't really into music and just want something to stimulate their ears while playing a stupid video game or something. It's meant to be sold in the millions.

OH, another example: Dragonforce. They're getting pretty big at this point, and they have talent, but their songs are terribly written and all sound the same. Of course, this is a perfect formula for spastic kids with adhd who just want something to wail around like morons about. I know it's generalization, but with this much crap floating around, it's really difficult to pick the good mainstream from the re-hashed garbage.

Damn you are very belligerent, especially towards people who make typos on internet forums who you believe you should be english teacher too.. have you talked to a psychologist ?
My major will be Psychology, when I get my degree you can come talk to me about your anger and immaturity issues :)
I'll stop reading this topic, as not to stir your emotions !
Have a good day !

I'll just ignore the grammatical issues with that post... moving on:
Good. Now we can continue talking about Incubus and stop this tangential diversion into why prog forums have issues with ego.

I think Crow Left of the Murder was their way of saying "we are not your posterboy pop band. we are rock, and we always were. screw you." and that's probably why it didn't sell as heavily as the much more accessible (but by no means inferior) Morning View. from Science on, they'd really hit the sweet spot. Here's to hoping the new album continues the string.

Seriously, at some point you just have to accept Kenneth for who he is... a very different individual (i mean that in the nicest possible way kenneth, i have no beef with you man  )

It still cracks me up how heated people get. I mean, yeah i like to push buttons, and yes i think incubus is terrible (and i have my right to my oppinion as well), it's no hair off my sack if someone else chooses to spend their time listening to them. I agree with whoever the fuck said it earlier... live and let live. I'll listen to my baby-slaughtering, nun-raping black metal and y'all can listen to pretentious prog and songs about not drinking and driving. And then we can all make fun of country together

Country is the same song but different people singing it.

Same chord progressions, same time sigs, same riffs, same instruments, same lyrics, same "I love god" stuff. I swear I'm gonna kick someone in the face the next time I hear people say Shania Twain is talented.

Like Dragonforce, except it's DIFFERENT people singing it.

for old times sake Zach
