How did the Stincubus guitarist make it on to a greatest guitarist list.

Have you ever tried to play some of Mike's riffs, let alone even listen to them? He is an amazing guitarist and brings out Jazz, a tiny bit of Funk, and Alternative guitar lines and incorporates them into his own style. The guitar bits he made are actually quite hard to match, especially his work with all his effects pedals. and clangorous, Jimi Hendrix was good, but he didn't do anything revolutionary with guitar and is very undeserving of the #1 spot. Steve Vai, I think should claim that spot. Steve Vai has put out i think now 11 albums of pure sonic guitar magic (and it's just the band, no vocals). He's been with a few bands as a touring/session guitarist like Whitesnake, Van Halen and David Lee Roth. PLUS, he helped to design the 7-string guitar. He really has revolutionized guitar playing and made a huge impact on most guitarists nowadays. That's just my opinion, but he is much more deserving of the #1 than Hendrix.

And early 90's Incubus sucks. Sorry. The changed their name to like Oppressor or something, and still went nowhere.

Incubus of today are definitely not 'mallcore.' In fact they've played some pretty intense metal as well. It's just that Brandon can actually sing...

And Einziger is an animal when it comes to funk. Deep Inside has one of the greatest guitar solos ever.

But i feel even Toni Iommi is equally deserving , the way he has composed the Toned down versions (As his finger tips were burnt in the Glass factory he used to work, he used to tune his guitar strings a bit low on tone), That used to give a Drugged effect . And also even Toni has his own designed Guitars. anyways i feel we r discussing these things in a wrong Thread . IMO Toni is a Guitarist who has not been recognised properly.

I would have to disagree. The early 90s Incubus/Opressor were a quite good, somewhat technical death/thrash band. And must say that I like them better than the modern popular, commercial Incubus.

i haven't heard the actual album so i'm not totally sure (i haven't heard any of these songs before though). also a bunch of the people from the board that i got that off of says that it's the real deal. they were also done at 192 so they sound pretty good.

Yeah, I just burned the cd so it will last me a week until the real thing comes out. It sounds FUCKING GREAT. The title track, A Crow Left of the Murder, is my favorite so far along with Pistola. Mike really has stepped it up on guitar technicality on this record. I even sensed some very Steve Vai-ish solos on this one, as he does a bunch of fast hammer-ons, pull-offs, and multi-finger tapping.

Yeah, Pistola really impressed me.

At first, I noticed that the production sounded more like QOTSA than that explosive heavy sound I'm used to. And the faster speed as well. But it's different. And that's what makes the band great.

They're bringing the funk back as well...Here In My Room sounded awesome.

No big deal. BTW, I looked it up on Metal Archives, and the 90s thrash Incubus changed their name to Opprobrium, not Oppressor. So Oppressor is not the same band. But I can see why fans of the thrash Incubus might rip on the new popular Incubus, since the band basically took the thrash band's name and overshadowed them, further pushing the thrash Incubus into obscurity.

Sorry for the necromancy, but the album came out.

It's awesome. I thought from the preview that I wouldn't like it, but it's great. Thrash/punk speeds, modern/garagerock styled riffage with Incubus chords and awesome funk solos and instrumentals. Lyrics are semi-political, and still full of great one-liners and metaphors.

Surprisingly, fans hate it. I thought all the mainstream n00bs would hate it for being so experimental, like FA, but instead, they're calling it a sellout.

Technically I love the group... musically and thematically... I hate them... but they are very skilled msuicians and as artists, very innovative

I'm torn over this album. For one thing, I love how they've upped the ante with the technical showcasing on the album and the increased funk and jazz stuff.


But at the same time, I can't help but feel that their songwriting is still heading slowly downwards into blandness.....there's just less and less variation than there used to be...oh I dunno.

Boyd definately goes way too high on numerous places in this record though. Does nothing for it.

My favourite song is Priceless. It blows me away.
