Haven't really posted any of my work since the 7H7E stuff, so here's what I just finished a couple days ago. Produce/engineer/mix/master.

YouTube kind of rapes the quality, but the mix stands up pretty well to it nonetheless! The drummer wanted the snare to be borderline overpowering in terms of compression smack and reverb, so it's definitely pushed up to the front more than I would choose to do voluntarily, but it works for the music.

sounds awesome mate. Can't really comment in terms of criticism other than like you say there is a pretty loud and super squashed smack to the snare - but not overpowering enough for it to be detrimental to the mix. Good work.

What was the guitar chain?

this band fucking slays and i love the SHIT out of the mix.... reminds me a little of the mix I did on the Silence EP... =D

P.S. - how did you use / position the atm450 for the guitar chain? what were you using it for, audibly speaking..?

also, what'd you use for the snare smack? sounds like either distressor / dbx 160 style unit / mh channel strip

Finally coming back to this thread... I'm actually not certain exactly how I placed the ATM450; I put the 57 in a pretty standard off-axis kind of position, and then placed the AT based on hearing both mics together being piped into my headphones. The general benefit of adding it was definitely a really smooth top end...

Snare smack is mostly MH ChannelStrip, but the drummer wanted it to be ridiculously smacky, so in my first mix revision I added a bit of Oxford Transient Modulator as well. I absolutely love that plug- I don't use it all the time, but there are certain situations when it's just exactly what something needs, either for adding more dynamic impact to something that doesn't have much, or for smoothing something out.

Also, the CLA-3A on the master bus is adding a bit of snare smack as well.

i want a HQ version of this.... YT rapes it!

Sick though, very sick.

And yes, Sony's TransMod is cool but I've always gotten along better with SPL's TD plug... more intuitive to use but it DOES hit it's limits quite early...
