So here's a quick run down and I'm curious if anyone has any insight...
The band I recently joined (who's album I recorded before joining) is facing some legal issues.
During the recording process, their singer called it quits, actively left on his own accord, that was the end of it. Didn't hear from him sonce them. The vocalist did not write a single lyric, melody or piece of musical. He was purely the performance side of the writing that is 100% written by the bassist/ guitarist (cofounders of the band).
Now, I've joined as second guitarist and another dude joined as vocalist. The guys have decided to rerecord vocals with the NEW vocalist because what's the point of releasing the album wit the old vocals right?
Upon the announcement of this news the old vocalist says he wants the money back he put towards recording the album etc. the band gave him a copy of Ye mixed album with HIS but straight up stated the official version will be with the new singer.
Now my good friend (lead guitarist/ main man) has a court summons in regards to this issue.
My first reaction... WTF??? Does this guy actually have ANY legal leg to stand on? From my limited knowledge I'm struggling to see what could give him right to anything out of it.
Any thoughts would be appreciated if you've any similar experience etc
