So what do you guys think of this mix? I'm trying to get this song and a few others to a point where a mastering engineer would be able to work with them. The toms need more stick attack, but what else do you hear?

Would I get more comments if I said that I haven't picked a mastering engineer yet, and that it would be for six songs (paid of course)?

So. more specifically, what can I do to make the guitars sound better, short of re-tracking? I can't seem to find a balance between clarity, bite, and low mids that I can live with.

The drums need more clarity and more definition, more punch, can you EQ them to sit in the mix a bit better and stand out a bit?

Do you have any suggestions for a starting point, frequency, for the snare? Could it be the compressor settings I've used causing the lack of punch?

Could be cuz i'm listening on laptop speakers but the guitars sound a bit cloudy. Try giving them a little boost in the 4-6k area and see if that clears it up a bit

The guitars are still pretty "cloudy," in those two versions. Less mids, more treble!

OK, so boost around 4-6k. What area of the mids would you cut?
