I'm £350 in pocket after a bunch of band sales, I'm looking for some kind of good bass pre/DI to replace the lackluster Ampeg SVT-8X10 on the axe fx. At the moment I'm just using that for the lows of the bass combined with the sansamp plug that comes with PT for bite.

I use the bddi- the standard pedal version and it rocks. I use it all the time for recordings and it gets used at a bunch of gigs by different bands I've done sound for. Haven't had much hands on experience recording the others but live I see bands using the rbi into the power section of an ampeg svt all the time. Usually sounds killer

The two best bass DI are th REDDI and the darkglass stuff IMO.

i would say they are worth checking out :)

Thanks for the suggestions guys, after some research seems the VT one isn't very "metaly", and I guess its either the BDDI pedal or the full RBI? What sonic differences does one have over the other? With the RBI its more convenient to just straight XLR out into my interface and several other options ....

any opinion on the PSA?

Have you heard the VT? Man, I've heard some sweet drive from it!

the VT bass has a LOT of drive and with the character knob you can shape the tone of the distorsion, from honky metal to stoner fuzzy.

The sound in your example video sounds like a Darkglass pedal to me.

Of all the Sansamps that I have, the one I always use is the RPM. Also loving the VT.

Darkglass Microtubes B7K. The best aggressive bass tones I've ever dialed in. I've also used and loved the Bass Driver DI for years but for heavy music the Darkglass kills it.

I have an RBI that I love, but I've been quite intrigued by the B7K. Unfortunately, they don't seem to pop up often used (and when they do, they're still pretty close to new prices), and I'm really not interested in it enough to justify spending $400 on one, when my RBI cost $150, so... meh :p

I much prefer the rbi to the b7k. the b7k has no cab modelling so it sounds really harsh, whereas the rbi sounds like a complete tone. or maybe the b7k just has bad cab modelling, but it only really sounds good through a bass cab in my experience
