guy at metalreviews.com reviewed my demo. the whole thing isn't up yet but:

Mike,
I reviewed your demo. It should post to the site on Monday with our weekly
update. Thanks for your patience. As a heads up, I gave it 60 / 100

that's still not good enough. the way people on here were commenting i figured at least 85 or 90.
If you want dude, Ill collaborate on a song with you, like Ill throw in a few solos, or ideas or sumthin if you want...Its all up to you dude.

hmmm...for a guy who is not even underground, just a hobbiest guitarist, trying to record things on his computer and sedning it to poeple, u should be happy that u were even reviewed...i didnt think ur stuff deserved a 85 or 90, but that doest mean they werent good, i like some of the stuff...but at a 70 level...

So is the review the reason you've taken your stuff out of your sig? Man, you can't just expect to break the scene with a demo the first time you send it to someone, it actually takes some hard work, you can't just crumble at the first rejection (because it sure won't be the only time it happens). You've only been playing, what, 3 years or something? Man, that's nothing, there's still so much you have to learn about music. And most bands have a bit of live performing under their belts too, the songs get a chance to mature etc. Wait till you read the guys comments, there may be a perfectly good reason why you got 60, something that you may not've thought of and may actually be a good idea that you can take on board. And it may just be the guy doesn't like it, and you need to take the "bah, what does he know" attitude and keep going in the direction you have been.
Anyway, if you really want it, you're gonna have to work hard at it and be prepared for some shit along the way........

well i would've given it a 45/100

the thing is that the people who have listened to you demo and said that it kicks ass all know you and don't take you seriously so they're surprised that you can churn out any crappy music of any quality so when you add in the shock factor, that adds about 50 points.
But if the demo was supposed to be a proper, slick demo than it's pretty shit. You should just be happy that the reviewer was so generous.

For gods sake, most of you riffs are immature and sound just plain stupid (and not in a wacky, creative type way). And don't get me started on the solos....dear god that is some of the worst lead work i've heard.

Your main problem is that you think that you are a good guitarist and a good musician, but you aren't well at least not yet anyway.
For a 19 yr old college student that has been playing guitar for 3 years for fun, your demo is actually good. I'm sure if you compared it to other 19yr old college students that have been playing guitar for 3 years than you demo would come out on top.

You can't expect to be good at something after only doing it for a while. What makes you so special that you don't have to work your ass off for a long time like other musicians out there? You have to persist and maybe in a couple years when you are good at guitar you'll produce a good demo.
