"Altars of madness" and "Covenant" are two of the best metal albums ever. David Vincent period rules (and pre-David Vincent, the demos with Mike Browning, Richard Brunelle,...) and even "Formulas fatal to the flesh" is very good.

Florida old school death metal (Morbid Angel, Death, Obituary, Massacre,...) and Stockholm old school death metal (Nihilist-Entombed, Grave, Carnage, Dismember,...) are, IMO, scenes as important and prolific as NWOBHM.

Stockholm Death Metal just rules, melodic but heavy like a brick in your face. Dismember wave their NWOBHM influence proudly and are possibly the ultimate band to see live - their live show is flawless and they love everysecond of it I just saw them last week (for the 2nd time) and they played 5 songs from Like An Everflowing Stream, their debut album, awesome!
