For the guitarists on the forum...

How is this thing as both a digital effects processor and a direct recording tool? I'm basically looking for something that posesses many many effects and different sounds, and that I can pretty much plug straight into a relatively standard soundcard. From the reviews I've read, it's "the thing" for what it does.

Thanks.

Yes, if I had the cash, I'd run to the local music store and buy one instantly, among hundreds of other gizmos, but that's another point. :)

It's really great, the "official samples" as well as stuff recorded with a POD sound very very good.

I'm not too sure about the effects it has.. 16, I hear, but that doesn't guarantee anything. The amp & speaker modelling is fantastic.

I'm sure Soul Forlorn will be around to provide first-hand experiences.

I tried some xoom thingie a cousing has it uses flash memory its a somehow solid guitar processor and has some recording capabilities limited mostly by the flash memory and some primitve drum sequence stuff trown in for good measure.
It was nice and all but i would not pay 350 american bucks for a jack of all master of none mini device
but that is just me

Hoser, the POD kicks ass! 99% of the electric parts on all of my songs were done with the pod. I'm talkin straight amp tones, though, not effects. The pod's effects are of mediocre quality. They're not bad, but most could be better. I use a standalone Lexicon rack unit for most of my effects. If you're not looking for absolutely stellar sounding effects then the Pod should do fine. The pod does include a killer volume swell effect, a la Opeth! I'm sure you've heard me use it in some of my tunes. Take in mind too, that the pod sounds best when used with a decent compressor and possibly a good tube mic-preamp (yeah, I know, it's not a mic so why run it through a mic-pre. The answer: it simply warms up the tone a bit and makes it generally sound a bit better). We're getting technical now, though. For most users' purposes, the pod alone would be a valuable piece of equipment for direct recording.
