Look what they've done now... a modelling guitar!

http://trio.harmony-central.com/ramgen/SNAMM02/Line6-Variax.rm

It seems and sounds cool (I'm sure all the picky and grumpy purists will hate it  ), but I dunno... I'm left in doubts about how well it'll work even after watching the streaming video (too bad it's RealMedia, it fucks the sound up beyond recognition) and the price he mentions (1999 bucks) isn't too appealing either.

Coming up next: a modelling guitar player? "Hmm, I want Hendrix to play this solo.. *twists knobs*" ;)

Thoughts, comments?

As an owner of a Line6 product (Flextone II amp) I have to say they are a very good company that makes good products. The flexibility in tone I get from my amp is mazing. However, I doubt that the subtle nuances of so many vastly different guitars could be modeled accurately. However, I'm sure that's what skeptics said about the Flextone amps when they were in development.

ehh I use Line 6 products...POD, FLextone II, Echo Pro...and I have to say this guitar failed to impress me...first off its ugly as sin. and the models are subpar, I think line6 should stuick to making effects and leave the guitars to Gibson, PRS, Ibanez and Jackson, etc. O and did I mention how ugly the guitar is? hehe

Yea but do you remember and/or know how a digitech rp3 sounded? My friend Pedro ( plays guitars with my band too ) owns an rp2 or 3 i think, and is just rightdown awful. Not a single distorsion sounds half way decent, the effects sound artificial and there isnt a way to save user defined presents. The only thing i told him to keep it for is in case he ever gets a rack effects processor he doesnt needs a midi controler since that piece of crap has midi abilities. Other than that is awful.

Nowdays the RP series and the gnx series sound amazing, the distorsions really do sound great and its just damn affordable to get an rp200 or 300. Maybe in a few years this guitar thing could happen.

Where's the link to the actual review?

I kind of agree with thorns... Besides... how many people KNOW how to play slide, banjo, 12 string, leads, blah blah blah? I am nowhere near good enough to lean all the styles which are possible with that, i will just pick a guitar that i need to play my favorite styles... I'm not that good of a musician to need all those things hehe

it sorta looks like a mix between an ugly danelectro and some kind of Ernie Ball.

yeh the guy played a shit load of styles..bleh thats mot my thing i stick to the one thing I do well, which in itself is a culmintaion of alot of things...Try and continue to improve on that. I guess it would be cool for session guitar players, or cover bands.

it seems a good idea and i'm pretty sure they can pull it off well, but i don't think it wwill sell. The main reason is that it looks fucking ugly and different guitar player prefer a different feel. to guitars. What they should of done was make several different models for the guitar i.e one shaped like a strat, les paul, ibanez rg, sg etc. Plus, there's no floyd rose on it. Many people don't like floyd's a lot of people love em like me as well as lead players.

Or at least they should have more finishes like satin black w/o a pickguard.

They should let B.C. rich do the design and put just line six preamp modeling so you can send your guitar right into the PA and sounding like a somehow decent amp. That guitar i would buy indeed.

I dunno if there's an actual review of this yet, I snatched the above link (to the video) from a Finnish music board. I'm not sure if the Variax is even out yet.

Yeah if it wasnt so fugly I would probably want one. Most guitar players are pretty close minded anyway so I can see if it doesnt become popular (other than its looks)

hmmmm....well the guitar is pretty cool...i cant ever see myself using one though, and at that price i dont think it will catch on. and misanthrope......strats and teles look fucking cool so shut the fuck up
