Jeff, I'm not wanting to pick a fight with you, but I can't help question you on something. How in the world can Russell and Jorn be your favorite vocalists, but Ronnie James only gets an honorable mention?

1. Roy Khan- no huge range, not super powerful, but ooo the drama!
2. RJD- SO glad i was privileged to see him w/Sabbath on the Mob Rules tour back in the day
3. Jorn Lande- does he EVER stop working???
4. Marco Hietala- raw, ferocious, & great...met him having a smoke (not him!)outside at XI, & was surprised by how soft spoken he was- awesome guy!
5. Nils K. Rue- great energy range & tonality & creative use of his range
6. Rod Evans (Captain Beyond)- not so wild about his early 'purple stuff, but this album never fails to blow my mind
7. Robert Plant
8. Fish (Marillion)
9. Rik Emmitt (Triumph)
10. Frank Dimino (Angel)

5. Robin McAuley
(Robin's work on the mid period MSG albums are phenomenal!)

This is one of the reasons I both love and hate these "favorite/top 10" lists. "Anytime" by MSG has to be one of the greatest vocal performances of all-time, but I simply forgot all about it until you mentioned it. Others also mentioned Brad Delp. I can't leave him out of my top 10, but I can't drop anyone either.

1.Daniel Heiman (lost horizon)
2.Fabio Lione (Rhapsody of Fire)
3.Jorne Lande (Beyond Twilight)
4.Tommy ----------(seventh wonder)

6.Edu Falaschi (Angra)...maybe controversial but i dont care i love him on songs like "Sprouts of Time."
7.Nils (Pagans Mind)
8.Mike Baker (Shadow Gallery)...favorite song is "Destination Unknown"
9.Michelle Luppi (Vision Divine)
10.Tony Kakko (Sonata Arctica)

I'm having a really hard time putting these singers in order of preference, so I'm just going to list them in alphabetical order. Though there are plenty of singers that sound great on their albums, I'm sticking with singers who are consistently great on stage as well. All of the singers listed below have the qualities I admire: extensive range (or excellent use of a somewhat limited range), unique killer tone, and powerful emotional delivery.

Russell Allen
Mark Boals
Bruce Dickinson
Ronnie James Dio
Daniel Gildenlow
Rob Halford
James LaBrie
Jorn Lande
Rob Rock
Nils K. Rue

Stay metal. Never rust.

I've been refraining from saying this, but I have to say it because I'm curious. I find it very interesting so many people are listing Kai Hansen. Don't get me wrong, I love Gamma Ray, but I wouldn't consider him a high quality vocalist by any stretch. To me, he works very well for Gamma Ray but only in the confines of that band. Is it just that people like him because he's unique or what? I'm just curious more than anything else.

He is definitely unique and probably one of my favorite power metal vocalists. When I saw them a couple years ago at the showcase I was amazed. When he took the stage he completely took control. It was one of my favorite shows ever. Not only that but he is shredding on the guitar while he sings. That's pretty impressive to me. I guess I took more than singing talent into consideration.

Damn good list. Rob has also been my fave singer for a long time. Were you able to catch his performance recently on the TBN network? A different one is airing this Friday on TBN as well.

This. He sounds like a coarse goose sometimes. Yet, it works brilliantly in Gamma Ray.
