I remember when The Downward Spiral broke out in the 90's and MTV used to play the shit out of "Closer", i used to hate that fucking track ... now i fucking love it.

Closer is the shit. Plus that video is so goddamn rad. The song right after it on the album (Ruiner) might be my favorite, though. The Becoming is pretty nasty, too. The whole album, front to back, is just so good.

What I love about NIN is that the albums are thematic. They're made to be listened to in order. On its own, Closer sounds like a song about a dude wanting to fuck a girl. In context of the album, its his self-loathing at his carnal desires. Makes a big difference.

I like that. It sounds cool. I've listened to traditional kinds of folk music from various cultures, as I've said. I've listened to a lot of Celtic music in particular.
