Listening to the promo of new Iced Earth, and...

I have the retail version with no watermarks... It still sucks.

Mostly due to Ripper IMO. A robot seems to have more emotion in it's voice than he does.

So, I bought the album the other day (album store out here put it out early), and after a few listens, I am really digging this album.

Not the greatest Iced Earth, but a pretty solid album, aside from the filler tracks.

So fuck you all.

Edit: And No, Rippers vocals do lack something Barlow had, but Barlow's don't come out of the woodwork. Awaiting the new Pyramaze for my Barlow fix... Though with the expectations I've set in my mind (due to it being A) Pyramaze and B) Barlow as the front man) are really setting my self up for disappointment.

The rising of Iced Earth in the Barlow era and the recent 'fall' shows clearly how a singer can make or break a band.
I have been an Iced Earth fan for years but after the something wicked remake and the new album I can't be....Ripper has the skills to sing good...the problem just is that Barlow was soo incredibly dynamic...and Ripper sounds kinda the same through the entire album.

But the songs that really made me cry out of pure agony was the remake of the something wicked trilogy.....the music was kinda a refreshing approach....but the vocals ...NO!
Sorry Ripper, you have the skills but some singers just can't be replaced I guess.

I get the feeling that Ripper is in the wrong genre of music. he needs a dynamic, heavier band, something more towards the nevermore style.... and i think that schaffer does not bring out the best in him. It's telling that schaffer's best work of late has been in Demons and Wizards.

BTW who ever mentioned that stuff about production is right. Jon needs to loosen the grip and let someone else produce. it also wouldn't hurt him to try something new. it seems many bands need to stray from the pasture a bit to let them rediscover what it was they were doing in the first place (MDB and opeth come to mind)
