Live show anticipation?

I was contemplating going to the show in Clifton Park, NY on the 11th, simply because I'll be up there on business, but then again, I'm not sure I can sit through 3 straight hours of nu-metal. Ha! Kidding! Kidding! ;)

Next one for me will be Stratovarius/Symphony X/ Thunderstone in London on March 31st

Hey Symphony - have you seen Symphony X before? I'm pretty sure they'll steal the show. And look out for them in the crowd after their set - they always mingle!

Ditto. Incidentally, which one did you opt to travel to? JAXX is a bit closer than NYC, right?

Actually, I think I might be heading out to Cleveland. I'm going skiing in Vermont next week. Originally it was going to be the early part of the week, but things have changed... and now it will be later in the week. So I'm gonna hit the Cleveland show. Though with the way things are going.. maybe it will change again!

First time for me seeing Symphony X. I'm really looking forward to seeing how well the material works in the live setting.:Smokedev:

I'll see Stratovarius and Symphony X in Helsinki on 22nd.

Kalmakoff, do you live in or near Helsinki? I'm looking for someone to keep me company when I come out there for Tuska. My girlfriend has given me 2 days to go to the show while she hangs with her grandparents, so we could meet!

Speaking of live show anticipation...

Tonight is Day 1 of the Koshick-run (bleargh) NJ Metal Meltdown V, so barring unforseen incident (my car getting stolen in beautiful Irvington, NJ, "confirmed" bands *cough* not showing up, etc.), it should be great fun. On the slate for today/night:

Today Is The Day
Bongzilla
Grave
Beyond The Embrace
Darkane
God Dethroned
Fozzy
Status Quo
Withered Earth
...and a gazillion unsigned bands

Can't wait!

I live in Tornio (way up north) which is actually quite far from Helsinki.
But hell yeah, sure we can meet at Tuska!

and in case you don't know already, latest additions to the Tuska lineup are Opeth and Tarot.

Brief rundown from NJ Metal Meltdown Day 1:

* all the bands who were supposed to be there, actually were! Who'da thunk it?
* Best band of the night: Grave, hands down
* Close 2nd: God Dethroned, who absolutely slaughtered even given a tired, thinning crowd late
* Props to the Peacekeepers & security, who kept a rather large metal crowd in check and still let people had their fun
* Special props to Jill from Nuclear Blast USA, who was not only very cool, but let me hear a good chunk of the new Soilwork album, Figure Number Five; let me just say the fight for Album Of The Year has begun
* met the dudes from Darkane, very cool guys and they also unleashed a blistering set of modern melodic thrash metal
* Today Is The Day scared the bejeesus out of me, but they did use a computer dial-up modem soundbite right smack dab in the middle of a song, so they got that going for them
* considering Irvington is a little shithole in northern New Jersey, I met people from Philly, Boston, Florida, Texas, Sweden, Germany, Portugal and more - very cool to see the metal scene thriving and interacting
* Boo! to the poorly marked street signs and highways in fucking New Jersey - it took nearly 1 hour to get Beyond The Embrace from the venue to their hotel room thanks to numerous wrong turns, etc...and I live here!

On to Day #2...

Day 2 is coming up (I'm actually running late at the time of this posting), and here's what's on tap:

Nile
Overkill
Nuclear Assault
Blaze
Goatwhore
Carnal Forge
Impaler
Havochate
Zandelle
All That Remains
Dave Brockie Experience
Tearabyte
...and once again, a gazillion unsigned bands

Be back later with more...

Yay for the new material to be played at Wacken too.

That's good to hear. Those are the top two bands I would have been there to see, if of course I would have went. Actually, I was going to, but Grave doing a US tour and a much much closer to me made me change my mind.

I downloaded it yesterday and... well... let's just say our opinions are very different.
