as a nation, no.

and when I say rock, I mean metal or anything with an adventurous edge to it.

Why is it that bands can be popular the world over except for here? NYC is admittedly a rare exception because it is so large, out of a metro population of what, many millions, you can actually get a several thousand seat venue to sell out?

I wouldn't say Red Sparrowes are so popular in Europe either, it's just that it's damned expensive to play in the U.S., especially if the bands are not from here.

Think about it. In the time it takes to get from NYC to Chicago, you could play 9 gigs in 7 countries in Europe.

Apples. Oranges. You know that.

Aren't Red Sparrowes American? Everything in Europe is more expensive than here, touring Europe must be hideously expensive. I'd be glad to have one of our french contingent correct me if I'm wrong, but I think France is a place where a band like Red Sparrowes receives a great welcome, because the French appear to be very into post-rock. It was amazing to notice that Explosions in the Sky, a band from Texas, tours over there, and they are hardly a household name here.

(btw it is great to see Evpatoria venturing out ~ they need to be heard)

Oh I don't know to be honest, I was just speaking in general, about European based bands coming over here. And things are NOT more expensive in Europe, because you can drive from one country to the next a lot of the time. Hotels seem to be cheaper as well. Of course gas/petrol is still quite expensive, but that's offset by other savings.

Isis is exploding in terms of sales in Europe , not a surprise to see Red Sparowes there too cause you know..Isis..hydrahead..neurot recordings..Neurosis..Red Sparowes, everything is linked and the fans are very loyal and eager to dig every single project those bands have.

Oh and you're right about Explosions in the Sky. Mogwai and Mono are also quite popular . Sold out shows for the two first and easily !

France knows the "hype" too, just 3 years after everyone :)

Very fucking cool to see The Evpatoria Report getting some additional exposure, as Dev pointed out many of the better known post-rock bands have strong cult followings and command as much respect as Isis does...Explosions did a recent US tour and most of their shows sold out, and Mogwai have had albums chart in the UK...
