I think Im going to drop some notes on it as well. I just fucking hope, that it isnt so much better then Pro Tools I have to relearn a new DAW. haha
yeah I am thinking of switching from DP as well. If it is $150 academic then I will definitely splurge on it.

but no beat detective + consolidate and other wee pro tools niceities that get glossed over= me no use

Dude, DP and Logic both have equivalent features. "Consolidate" is known as "Merge" in both DP and Logic, and both programs have beat detection built in. You're as bad as those Windows users who, when confronted with a Mac for the first time, ask "where's the Start menu?"

So I've been trying out Logic 8 at a friend's house. WOW!!! I'm definitely ordering it as soon as I can... and I swear to god it SOUNDS better than DP due to the 64 bit summing, pan laws, etc...

though the new logic is tempting or all the midi stuff.
i dont think logic and dp have beat detection to the same extent as my friend in the hat and cape.lol
but yet again.
ymmv, what ever gets you making music is the best daw

I just got it (LP8) and I'm currently testing it out, but I've been a life long logic user.... oh and it kicks ass!

i have a decent computer; it just doesn't have an apple logo on it. and if i were to have an extra $2,000 sitting around, i definitely wouldn't spend it to get another computer, when the one i have works just fine.

Really want this. Currently using Express 7 and feeling its limitations - all of which seem to be dealt with nicely in this version. Doing my best to persuade the rest of the band guys to chip in with me for an upgrade

No, in fact you can even use DP with PT hardware, or any other hardware. It's really a great program in almost every way, my only gripes with it are:
- The user interface is dated and hopelessly cluttered, with tiny font sizes designed for monitors from 1985 (Geneva 8 point, anyone? Digital Performer started out as the MIDI sequencer Performer in 1985 and a lot of the UI is still the same!!)
- It's a total processor hog and offers lower plugin counts than any other DAW
- It will only record to SDII format, even though it can import/export anything, it has to work natively in a dead, obscure format (Sound Designer II is a defunct Mac app from many years ago.)
