A thought came to my mind today, when I was listening to Katatonia and Anathema, and I'd like to ask you what you think about it.
Their music is pure genious, and the people who know me from the beginning of the list knows how much I'm sincere when saying this...
However, I don't think that so many people can actually realize how much important they are in the history of music...
I guess that the music they develloped will truly be appreciated when their bands will disappear. I mean bands or people playing melancholic music are always considered as being a bit deranged, until the day you try to listen to it carefully.
Think about Nick Drake for example, who was not really considered as being an important songwriter in the 70's. His talent was really appreciated several years after his death. His music sounds so actual even nowadays, this man was a genious, and no one realized it when he was alive.
Well I guess it's the same for Katatonia and Anathema. Ok, they have hordes of core fans in the world, but the majority of music critics has never heard of them.
When I say "recognized", I don't mean to be a best-seller, I just mean to be judged not only through their name, through their past of metal bands, but through the music they have develloped throughout the years.
Can anyone confirm what I think? (or even translate cause my english may seem a bit confused...)

My two favourite bands!

Yeah... genius is always hidden from the masses. Nietszche said this was a requisite for genius... so who knows!

I really like your statement. Very nice that you mentioned Nick Drake. Indeed he was a genious and his records will always be timeless.
I've never really looked upon the fact that Katatonia and Anathema have developed a kind of new style but as you mention it i think you are right.
Maybe Katatonia will get more attention when they aren't there anymore, maybe not,who knows, but anyway the link between Nick Drake and them is somehow interesting and maybe not too far away from truth.

I agree...Nick Drake was a genious. It's so pure emotions with him and his guitar.

Anathema is good but right now it feels like Katatonia are much better...
