Lunaris is a ‘new’ band that combines grim blackish Metal with progressive elements and a technical sound. Every song on this album is different. "… Of The One" for example reminds me to a Satyricon / Khold / Malignant Eternal-alike piece of grimness, "Mother Of Storms" for example has some interfaces with Limbonic Art, "Growth Denied" is more a ‘Solefald-meets-… And Oceans’ track, and besides all these elements and influences I must also think about bands such as Myrkskog, … In The Woods, Dødheimsgard, Helheim or Ram-Zet. Special, unusual yet unique!

There are labels that really bring the water to your mouth. After having read and published news about Lunaris we indeed were really impatient to get hold of a copy of this album about which we heard that it was going to be excellent. It’s true that every label is good at saying wonderful things about its new bands, but it’s also true that few have the possibility to back their promises up with such tangible and evident proofs of quality. After all, we were going to be treated on certain well-known personalities (for those who are interested in the Black/Death scene that is). As promised we found the talents of Asgeir Mickelson (Spiral Architect & Borknagar), Azarak (Spiral Architect & Satyricon), Maztema (Spiral Architect) and Balfori (1349). To those were added: Ray on keyboards and M who is no other than the mastermind of the band. This multi-instrumentalist indeed composed the whole ordeal and talking of composition here, we use this term with some sort of reticence because we would have loved to find a word somewhat more adapted to the present context. A word that would mean “construction of an absolutely genius piece of music” or something in that vein... My only regret about this album is that the prod sounds a bit too shrill but that didn’t stop me from listening to it a couple of times in a row just for my private little pleasure! For right from the start it was crystal clear that my task as a journalist would be light and that I didn’t have to throw in hours of “forced” audition for this one. Such an album indeed doesn’t need trumpets because its mere presence and quality speak for themselves...
