lurch.

one thing that was great from Monster was their SVHS cable .. even at the cheapest level ... a noticeable difference in video clarity from the one in a box.

yeah ... i seen and heard these ... old school stuff .. MC had these in their line since late 80's ...
if you have $30k speakers driven by a $10K amp ... they just make sense.

they are fucking huge ... literally garden hose size.

yes well all cat5 cable is shielded, correct me if i'm wrong? maybe it's not actually! maybe that's cat6

Cat5? no. It's UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair). Cat6, yes, Cat6 and Cat7 both have shielding mandatory in the standard. You CAN buy shielded Cat5 cable, but it's usually reserved for inexpensive corporate backbones (Running Gigabit ethernet) and in some over the core Telco closets running 1Gbit/10Gbit between the switches/routers.

Video is data. Take 5 minute porno clip and a 5 minute mp3. Note the video being a much larger file, despite lower sound quality. The Video is using much higher bitrates and frequencies in the cable. The higher the frequency and the higher the bitrate, the more susceptible to interference the signal is.

if you live in a $10 mil house it does ...

it doesn't make sense if you have a $200 stereo.

and lets not forget ... that type of equipment holds its value pretty well ...

analog video cable is much more succeptible to interference ... especially coax

i did not know that Monster Cable was around as far back as 1983 ...

that write-up is probably true for the most part ... the biggest culprit in bad sound are loose connections or corroded/oxidized cable.

however I do believe that even at lamp wire level quality ... an 8 gauge cable will giev you better sound then some thin ass 24 guage

you went to the school of i-paid-$65-for-this-3-meter-copper-wire-so-it-better-sound-good wannabe-audiophile-placebo-effect imo

If you have that setup, your a movie theatre or concert hall. You'll probably run optical fiber or coax.

That's exactly what I have, digital coaxial cables. And for the record, I only have Monster speaker wire; when Audio Research came out with the exact same cables as Monster at 1/3 the price, I wasn't dumb enough to buy the more expensive ones. All my component video, A/V, etc. cables are Audio Research; they range from $15-$40 each (a component video cable is expensive no matter how you slice it).

i have the same component video cables. they were really the only ones available at the time save for monster cables which were waaayyy too much money.
however, im not sold on the whole technology thing. i could just as well be watching movies in black and white.
my neighbor got a $2500 plasma the other day and it actually looks worse than my tube tv

no, his plasma is really unimpressive. the best part is it hangs on the wall and takes up less space.

that is quite possible ... HDTV's do not come properly calibrated from the factory for some reason, and most people just plug them in from the box and let'em rip.

I remember 2 years ago when I bought my Samsung HD set ... I went into the service menu (some hidden menu accessible to technicians only, got the codes to get into it online) and adjusted the shit out of it ... literally few dozen minor adjustements. The picture has been flawless since ...

yeah, he said something about how it doesnt look that good on channels that arent HD.
meh, i could find better things to with my time than watch HDTV. like post on UM apparently
