lyrical quotes that have had a profound effect on you.

She Is Dead And All Fall Down

Since disappointment and despair
The vainness of all hopes declare
Since toss'd upon this restless main
I strive 'gainst wind and waves in vain
The more I struggle for the shore
Misfortunes overwhelm the more
Then since I struggle to maintain
And strive alas to live in vain
I'll hope no more -- Since prov'd and tried
The feeble light she once suplied
Resembled but a taper's ray
That only burns to die away
And leave one lost in endless night
(My follies but exposed to sight)
Then come misfortunes as you will
Oppressions sink we lower still
Haste keen despair and urge my doom
And all that haunt the wretched come
Fate from my heart all fears exprunge
I stand resolv'd to take the plunge
O thou great being who resides
Far above where you ether glides
Whose power almightly piercing eye
Marks all on earth in air and sky
Who oft (such care we ought to praise)
This sand-grain call'd a world surveys
Nor deems unworthy of thy care
Vain men as worthless as we are
Who oft with liberal hands bestows
Thy gliding mercy here below
And while our sins so multiply
Like mountains heap'd before thee lie
So loath -- so tempted to chastize
And then to bless us in disguise
To disappoint our restless schemes
Our airy hopes and foolish dreams
Is but to prove the empty shew
Of painted happiness below
O thou that hears the wretched call
Thou universal friend to all...

“Each time I wake
I'm somehow feeling the truth
I can't handle”- Korn (yes, I am allowed to like non-metal bands.

“Nursery rhymes are said, verses in my head
Into my childhood they're spoonfed
Hidden violence revealed, darkness that seems real
Look at the pages that cause all this evil”-Korn (that's very true if you think about it.

"When you want it
It goes away too fast
Times you hate it
It always seems to last"- Manson, The Speed of Pain

To Bid You Farwell
"I am awaiting the sunrise
Gazing modestly through the coldest morning
Once it came you lied
Embracing us over autumn´s proud treetops
I stand motionless
In a parade of falling rain
You voice I cannot hear
As I am falling again
Devotion eludes
And in sadness I lumber
In my own ashes I am standing without a soul
She wept and whispered: "I know..."
We walked into the night
Am I to bid you farewell?
Why can't you see that I try
When every tear I shed
Is for you?"

Harvest
"Stay with me a while
rise above the vile
name my final rest
poured into my chest
Into the orchard I walked peering way past the gate
wilted scenes for us who couldn't wait
drained by the coldest caress stalking shadows ahead
halo of death all I see is departure
mourner's lament but it's me who's the martyr

Pledge yourself to me
never leave me be
sweat breaks on my brow
given time ends now
Into the orchard I walked peering way past the gate
wilted scenes for us who couldn't wait
drained by the coldest caress stalking shadows ahead
halo of death all I see is departure
mourner's lament but it's me who's the martyr

Spirit painted sin
embers neath my skin
veiled in pale embrace
reached and touched my face
Into the orchard I walked peering way past the gate
wilted scenes for us who couldn't wait
drained by the coldest caress stalking shadows ahead
halo of death all I see is departure
mourner's lament but it's me who's the martyr

that's all I can think of off the top of my head. That plus all the Anathema songs.

oh, and from The Drapery Falls-" Pull me down again and guide me into pain."
I just love how they do that.

Heres one of my all time favorites, simple and straightfoward:

Choices always were a problem for you.
What you need is someone strong to guide you.
Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow,
what you need is someone strong to use you...
like me.

Tool-opiate, of course :D

Through the eternal flame I travel
As the rain keeps falling....

-The Apostle in Triumph

Touching her flesh in this night
My blood froze forever
Embraced before the dawn
A kiss brought total eclipse

-In Mist She Was Standing

orchid rules :)

I love the last lines of "drapery"

Spiralling to the ground below,
like autumn leaves left in the wake to fade.
Waking up to your sound again,
and lapse into the ways of misery.

And from Testament

the only truth is your own, most sacred lesson I'd ever learn,
I know we are free.

Katatonia

I will sleep tonight, just to sleep tomorrow, if I sleep at last

Dark Tranquility

The demand I get from excellence, the void I felt from answering.
Not only an addition, it generated pain.

And the 3rd and the Mortal
from In this Room, when she sings "this, irregular galaxy" the way she pronouces it as a soft "g" for some reason stikes me as phenomenally clever.

Carcass (this one might tell you a little bit about my personality)

Parched with thirst our cup overfloweth
With the crimson milk of human blindness
In charnel towers of ivory besieged
The bones of subjugation are picked clean
In barren decadence, tears are the only affluence
Welling eyes are indifferent, as the blind bleed

Blood and tears - out damn spot out
Of perpetual decay
The salt in open wounds - out damn spot out
The scars remain, perpetual decay

Bloody hands never wash clean
Abject misery to bleed
Decadence to feed
Out damn spot out

Parched with thirst how the other half die
Void of compassion our cup runs dry
With a silver spoon born to dig communal graves
The only consecration, the economics of pain
In barren decadence, tears are the fuel of affluence
Wells of blood run diffluent, a bitter harvest to reap...

Blood and tears - out damn spot out
The fruits of perpetual decay
Pouring the salts in open wounds - out damn spot out
The scars will stay, perpetual decay

Bloody hands never wash clean
Abject misery to bleed
Decadence to feed
Out damn spot out

fucking brilliance

I know it's very predictable to use an Opeth quote on their forum, but the line "to the coldest morning, once it came you lied," from To Bid You Farewell is brutally truthful, and very sad at that.

Also, every single line from 3 Libras, by A Perfect Circle.

Funny, this poser kid I know that is very Christian listens to A Perfect Circle because he thinks it makes him cool, and i'm telling him "Don't you know what Judith is about? It's blatantly anti-Christian" He just said "no it's not"

Haha, I just read that not too long ago and it brought a big ol' smile to my face. That kid must be pretty fucking ignorant. I mean "fuck your Lord, your God, your Christ." What more does he want? When you see this kid again, kick him in his narrow-minded Christian face

It would be a lie to tell you that the first time I hear this song its content had an impact on me because I was 11 yeasr old the first time I hear it and I didn't understand a word of it.
But the time I learn a lot of English about two years later the lyrics of this song identifies me so much.

It can't all be coincidence
Too many things are evident
You tell me you're an unbeliever
Spirtualists ? Well me I'm neither
But wouldn't you like to know
The truth
Oh what's out there to have the proof
And find out just which side
You're on
Where would you end in Heaven or
In Hell ?

Can be all coincidence, will we end in heaven or hell?
I don't believe neither I´m spiritualist
But I would love to know the truth of what´s out there

There's got to be just more to it
That this
Or tell me why do we exist
I'd like to think that when I die
I'd get a chance another time
And to return and live again
Reincarnate, play the game
Again and again and again.

There's got be something else , something beyond, I don't believe in God but that doesn't take away the hope on me that when I die I will reach into another life, another chance. Without that hope I´m nothing

That´s why that song means alot to me , that's why this is my favorite Maiden Song

I just press the song on my winamp :)

Hey misanthrope I think everyone should be allowed to post in the thread he/she wants to post in... (Maybe excluding the neverending religion-war-threads.)

Death - Mentally Blind

What would you do without your pathetic narrow-minded approach to life,
that reflects your lack of abilities
Your opinions are self-destructive
Despair is your gain, delight is corruption
Destined to fall prey to your stories,
creating problems for your consumption.

Death - Bite the Pain

Look down at the body
you may see no trace of wounds
but in the eye
the eye of the beholder
one cannot asume.

Not a drop of blood is drawn
but you know how it bleeds
beware of the sharp edged weapon
called human being

It is a shield of passion
and strong will
from this I am the victor
instead of the kill

I will not feed your hunger, instead
I bite the pain
looking not back, but forward
I bite down hard
try to cover up the trail of deceit
and daggers spawned from your soul

Acid, the tears of remorse
flow in vain, too late for regrets
save it
for the next ill fated game.

Death - Flesh and the Power it Holds

passion is a poison laced with pleasure bitter sweet
one of many faces that hide deep beneath
it will take you in
it will spit you out
behold the flesh and the power it holds
touch, taste, breathe, consumed
deja-vu. already knew from the first encounter
but know I know to let go of words to speak no more
like a wind upon your face you can't see it
but you know it's there, when beauty shows
its ugly face, just be prepared.

Pretty much every song by Death (after Scream Bloody Gore) contain really thoughtful lyrics.

Katatonia - Brave

the sound of falling
when the pictures are moving
between the memories
dead in time

Same thing I've always heard from you
"Do as I say, not as I do"

maybe that's my favorite part..

Fuck yah, Civil War is a kick ass song. Guns N' Roses was the first band I really got into, I was also 8 at the time, but still, they were a bad ass band. I'm going to go listen to that song right now.
