Songs that capture your imagination? *Awesome lyrical content*

Dreamed I was an Eskimo
Frozen wind began to blow
Under my boots and around my toes
The frost that bit the ground below
It was a hundred degrees below zero...

And my mama cried
And my mama cried
Nanook, a-no-no
Nanook, a-no-no
Don't be a naughty Eskimo
Save your money, don't go to the show

Well I turned around and I said "Oh, oh" Oh
Well I turned around and I said "Oh, oh" Oh
Well I turned around and I said "Ho, Ho"
And the northern lights commenced to glow
And she said, with a tear in her eye
"Watch out where the huskies go, and don't you eat that yellow snow"
"Watch out where the huskies go, and don't you eat that yellow snow"

King Crimson - Neal and Jack and me

I'm wheels, I am moving wheels
I am a 1952 studebaker coupe
I'm wheels, I am moving wheels moving wheels
I am a 1952 starlite coupe...
En route.....les Souterrains
Des visions du Cody...Sartori a Paris...
Strange spaghetti in this solemn city...
There's a postcard we're all seen before...
Past wild-haired teens in dark clothing
With hands-full of autographed napkins we
eat apples in vans with sandwiches ... rush
Into the lobby life of hurry up and wait
Hurry up and wait for all the odd-shaped keys
Which lead to new soap and envelopes...
Hotel room homesickness on a fresh blue bed
And the longest-ever phone call home.....no
Sleep no sleep no sleep no sleep and no mad
Video machine to eat time... a cityscene
I can't explain, the Seine alone at 4am
The Seine alone at 4a.m....Neal and Jack and me
Absent lovers, absent lovers...

Of all the bands that I've listened to over the years, very few have been for lyrical content as I tend to be a creature of the music itself and have always focused on the emotional content of the music underneath the lyrics, but one of the bands have spoken to me on a lyrical level like no other is the great RUSH Songs such as "Resist" and "The Pass" while simple in statement, hit me on a deep level and have meaning beyond words.

"Resist"

I can learn to resist
Anything but temptation
I can learn to co-exist
With anything but pain

I can learn to compromise
Anything but my desires
I can learn to get along
With all the things I can’t explain

I can learn to resist
Anything but frustration
I can learn to persist
With anything but aiming low

I can learn to close my eyes
To anything but injustice
I can learn to get along
With all the things I don’t know

You can surrender
Without a prayer
But never really pray
Pray without surrender

You can fight
Without ever winning
But never ever win
Without a fight

"The Pass"

Proud swagger out of the school yard
Waiting for the world's applause
Rebel without a conscience
Martyr without a cause

Static on your frequency
Electrical storm in your veins
Raging at unreachable glory
Straining at invisible chains

And now you're trembling on a rocky ledge
Staring down into a heartless sea
Can't face life on a razor's edge
Nothing's what you thought it would be

All of us get lost in the darkness
Dreamers learn to steer by the stars
All of us do time in the gutter
Dreamers turn to look at the cars
Turn around and turn around and turn around
Turn around and walk the razor's edge
Don't turn your back
And slam the door on me

It's not as if this barricade
Blocks the only road
It's not as if you're all alone
In wanting to explode

Someone set a bad example
Made surrender seem all right
The act of a noble warrior
Who lost the will to fight

And now you're trembling on a rocky ledge
Staring down into a heartless sea
Done with life on a razor's edge
Nothing's what you thought it would be

No hero in your tragedy
No daring in your escape
No salutes for your surrender
Nothing noble in your fate
Christ, what have you done?

Another band that has reached me on a lyrical level is ENCHANT - they always seem to write lyrics about real world things that speak about the emotional creatures we are underneath and our interactions with each other.

Lyrics don't have to be either complicated or simple - it's just a matter of how it speaks to the listener. Some songs speak to use simply by reminding us of a time in our lives or something thats happened to us.

I know this thread is supposed to be about good lyrics, but bad lyrics are so much more fun - thus, I give you Children of Bodom :D

Hey! Don't tell us what you want,
Cause we don't give a fuck about you and your kind.
You! You better take a step back where ever the fuck you came from.
No! You ain't one of us and to be tag along you're too ugly and blunt.
Why?! Is it so hard to get that we don't need you, stupid cunt!

and...

Stop! Are you ever gonna stop tryin' to be on the way that we wanna go?
Fuck! It's pissing the fuck out of us when you don't understand the word 'no' !
Now, you're tellin' that you'll win the war that's only battled cause you're
Too dumb to die. That's right! You can take your war and shove it up your ass,
Then close your eyes and say goodbye.

:lol::lol:

I dunno men, I think the Dutch write the best lyrics. All that weed has to have something to do with it.

"The cold burning sword beholds the wrath"
WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN???

I present to you. . .

Sinister - "Awaiting The Absu"

The lyrics . . . in combination with this song . . just make me go wiiiiilllddd!! :heh:

I invoke thee, nameless beings
Children of the underworld
Covered with blood
Embraced by fire, ANNU spawned

Call upon the dead
They were and once more will be
Warriors of KUR
Rulers of the black earth

Screaming demons
Children of the serpent god
VENGEANCE IS SWORN!

Wreak vengeance upon them
Secret covenant will have revenge
From the depths the nameless will rise
The seven lords reborn in UR
The cold burning sword beholds the wrath

Suffer - in pain
Suffer - bleeding
Suffer - to dream

Covered with blood
Embraced by fire, ANNU spawned
Screaming demons
Children of the serpent god
VENGEANCE IS SWORN!

Call upon the dead
They were and once more will be
Warriors of KUR
Rulers of the black earth

Secret covenant will have revenge
From the depths the nameless will rise
The seven lords reborn in UR
The cold burning sword beholds the wrath

Suffer - in pain
Suffer - bleeding
Suffer - to dream

AWAITING THE ABSU
AWAITING THE ABSU
AWAITING THE ABSU

VENGEANCE IS SWORN!
Invocation in unknown words
Screamed in forgotten tongue
Ruins of UR rumbling
The seed of rebellion reborn

Necromantic art from the kingdom of Woe

CTHULHU sleeps and dreams the burning pain
PAZUZU plague gods, shaped from the blood of KINGU

Calling of the spirits who dwell in the lost
Dark shining world of the ancient horde

Covered with blood

Embraced by fire, ANNU spawned
Screaming demons
Children of the serpent god
VENGEANCE IS SWORN!

Wreak vengeance upon them
Secret covenant will have revenge
From the depths the nameless will rise
The seven lords reborn in UR
The cold burning sword beholds the wrath

Suffer - in pain
Suffer - bleeding
Suffer - to dream

AWAITING THE ABSU
AWAITING THE ABSU

Even though I personally like to write in a very abstract, metaphor-ridden way, I can immerse into any kind of lyrics - no matter the pragmatics - if I can feel them coming from an honest point.

Mike Ness' minimalistic punk rock love songs are a personal favourite therefore.

As a are - and I know that's a very moot point with many - Warrel Dane's lyrics.

Look at my Horse, my horse is amazing
Give it a lick, *mmm* it tastes just like raisins
Have a stroke of it's mane, it turns into a plane
Then it turns back again when you tug on it's winkie
Oooohh, that's dirty! Do you think so?
Well I better not show you where the lemonade is made
Sweet Lemonade, *Mmm* Sweet lemonade
Sweet Lemonade, Yeah sweet lemonade

Get on my horse, I'll take you around the universe and all the other places too
I think you find that the universe pretty much covers everything
Shut up woman, get on my horse!

On a serious note, some Tool songs really can't be topped for lyrical awesomeness.

The lyrics on Weak Aside by Bloodbath in combination with the music...holy shit, SO INTENSE. ...or should I say unholy shit!

Weak Aside:kickass:

We're born to reign as masters
To ashes we'll burn the pastures
Repell their ways back to nothingness
Chaos in symmetry
This glorious victory
In darkness only we can see

Our name has seen the future
Headshot target now on god
Pointblank crimson dawn
Spew forth tomorrow's spawn

Transcend with rage of the elite
The new order come to rise and shine (rise and shine)
Write new history as we wipe and delete
An urge to rid this world of human waste
Weak aside

Defiled bloodlines severed
The lowlife's doom endeavoured
The sheep of masses trampled under our march
Set out to lead and create
This power indulge our fate
This era calls for annihilation
Our whispers outsound prayers
We claimwhat was never theirs
Sworn to the triumph of darkness

Down... insects bow to me
Die... insects too blind to see
Down... disgusting foul flea
Die... we remove the life of thee

something about metal lyrics have never hit me, they are sick, just not on a personal level

Misery Signals - labyrinthian
(some of the most powerfull lyrics)

just the vocal attack is sooo huge

Drag my face through the dirt again
I know I'm where I belong
For you're a constant reminder
Of all the rights that I've wronged

Give me the strength to move this mountain
To block this line of sight
This was more than I could ask for
Tear down the sky
Black out the sky
Sever these ties

As you further your tragedy
To prove to me you're alive
Sooner or later we'll have to choose
From this, a new set of lies

Give me the strength to flood this valley
To wash my hands of you

This was more than I could ask for
Tear down the sky
Black out the sky
Sever these ties

So here I stand
This battered path laid out before me
And no one said this would be easy
But it's something I must do for myself
It's going to be a long hard road

Know I will let go
This time it feels so right to forget

This was more than I could ask for
Tear down the sky
Black out the sky
Sever these ties

So here I stand
This battered path laid out before me
And no one said this would be easy
But it's something I must do for myself
It's going to be a long hard road
Which I will walk alone

Oompa Loompa doompety doo
I've got a perfect puzzle for you
Oompa Loompa doompety dee
If you are wise you'll listen to me

What do you get when you guzzle down sweets
Eating as much as an elephant eats
What are you at, getting terribly fat
What do you think will come of that
I don't like the look of it

Oompa Loompa doompety da
If you're not greedy, you will go far
You will live in happiness too
Like the Oompa Loompa doompety do
Doompety do

Oompa Loompa doompety doo
I've got another puzzle for you
Oompa Loompa doompedah dee
If you are wise you'll listen to me

Gum chewing's fine when it's once in a while
It stops you from smoking and brightens your smile
But it's repulsive, revolting and wrong
Chewing and chewing all day long
The way that a cow does

Oompa Loompa doompety da
Given good manners you will go far
You will live in happiness too
Like the Oompa Loompa doompety do

Oompa Loompa doompety doo
I've got another puzzle for you
Oompa Loompa doompety dee
If you are wise you'll listen to me

Who do you blame when your kid is a brat
Pampered and spoiled like a siamese cat
Blaming the kids is a lie and a shame
You know exactly who's to blame
The mother and the father

Oompa Loompa doompety da
If you're not spoiled then you will go far
You will live in happiness too
Like the Oompa Loompa doompety do

Oompa Loompa doompety doo
I've got another puzzle for you
Oompa Loompa doompedah dee
If you are wise you'll listen to me

What do you get from a glut of TV
A pain in the neck and an IQ of three
Why don't you try simply reading a book
Or could you just not bear to look
You'll get no
You'll get no
You'll get no
You'll get no
You'll get no commercials

Oompa Loompa doompety da
If you like reading you will go far
You will live in happiness too
Like the - Oompa -
Oompa Loompa doompety do

My lovely horse,
Running through the field
Where are you going with your fetlocks blowing in the wind?
I want to shower you with sugar lumps,
And ride you over fences
Polish your hooves every single day
And take you to the horse dentist.

My lovely horse
You're a pony no more
Running around with the man on your back
Like a train in the night, yeah,
Like a train in the night.

anything by Nick Cave

+1 a truly twisted mind is a terrible thing to waste.

"Abattoir Blues"

The sun is high up in the sky and I'm in my car
Drifting down into the abattoir
Do you see what I see, dear?
The air grows heavy. I listen to your breath
Entwined together in this culture of death
Do you see what I see, dear?
Slide on over here, let me give you a squeeze
To avert this unholy evolutionary trajectory
Can you hear what I hear, babe?
Does it make you feel afraid?
Everything's dissolving, babe, according to plan
The sky is on fire, the dead are heaped across the land
I went to bed last night and my moral code got jammed
I woke up this morning with a Frappucino in my hand
I kissed you once. I kissed you again
My heart it tumbled like the stock exchange
Do you feel what I feel, dear?
Mass extinction, darling, hypocrisy
These things are not good for me
Do you see what I see, dear?
The line the God throws down to you and me
Makes a pleasing geometry
Shall we leave this place now, dear?
Is there someway out of here?
I wake with the sparrows and I hurry off to work
The need for validation, babe, gone completely berserk
I wanted to be your Superman but I turned out such a jerk
I got the abattoir blues
I got the abattoir blues
I got the abattoir blues
Right down to my shoes

Probably one of my favourite lyrics is "C Thomas Howell as The Soul Man" by Botch.

Stop the show, Listen up
We've got something to say and it's important
Can't hear the words you say, Or the notes you play.
And you're not changing the world

Just a few more moments of your time. Just a few more moments, while I speak. So we can change your mind
We're all breaking ground. Bringing the revolution around
Support this support that. Once again, it's all an act
Wasting our time on you
stop
Support this support that. Once again, It's all an act

The worst music I've ever heard. Honesty that touches a nerve
The words fall onto the floor. Drive home with no lessons learned
Soon the content outweighs the form. With time, the sounds get boring
For you and me, this posture is self-serving

anything by Nick Cave

I got married last year, and our first dance was Into My Arms. You kinda just blew my mind because at the end of our vows, when they pronounced us husband and wife we got the speaker to say "By the power of Greyskull, I pronounce you husband and wife" (your user name haha):

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MS4gRmvvDsU&feature=related[/ame]

I don't believe in an interventionist God
But I know, darling, that you do
But if I did I would kneel down and ask Him
Not to intervene when it came to you
Not to touch a hair on your head
To leave you as you are
And if He felt He had to direct you
Then direct you into my arms

Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms

And I don't believe in the existence of angels
But looking at you I wonder if that's true
But if I did I would summon them together
And ask them to watch over you
To each burn a candle for you
To make bright and clear your path
And to walk, like Christ, in grace and love
And guide you into my arms

Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms

And I believe in Love
And I know that you do too
And I believe in some kind of path
That we can walk down, me and you
So keep your candlew burning
And make her journey bright and pure
That she will keep returning
Always and evermore

Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms, O Lord
Into my arms
