I think we could discuss some lyrics from anywhere, which we don't hear, don't understand or not sure about their meaning. Explanations, opinions, questions.

i've already started to search for some clue for pink floyd final cut in another thread.. they have lots i cant get really... e.g.:
Barrett's Astronomi Domine

Lime and limpid green, a second scene
A fight between the blue you once knew

Floating down, the sound resounds
Around the icy waters underground
Jupiter and Saturn, Oberon, Miranda,
And Titania, Neptune, Titan
Stars can frighten...

Blinding signs flap flicka flicka flicka
Blam pow, pow
Stairway scare Dan Dare who's there

Lime and limpid green,
The sound surrounds the icy waters underground

???

I dunno i think poor syd was at the stage where he was't even trying to make sense

the voivod cover of that track is fairly nifty i think

"High Hopes (Gilmour/Samson)

Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun

Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway
Do they still meet there by the Cut"

ok, i need some help again..
what is "magnets" for?
division bell? is it deathbell?
and what are the Long Road, Causeway and Cut? any ideas?
once i tried to translate some lyrics from english but this one i really couldnt. i got my impressions but afraid if they are mistaken..

the rest is:
"There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before times took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay

The grass was greener
The light was brighter
When friends surrounded
The nights of wonder

Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some sleeping tide

At a higher altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world

Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There's a hunger still unsatisfied

Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we've been so many times

The grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder

With friends surrounded
The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless river

Forever and ever"

i still think its a great lyrics though not written by waters...

I'll dance with the angels to celebrate the holocaust,
And far beyond my far gone pride,
Is knowing that we'll soon be gone,
Knowing that I'll soon be gone...

how do you mean Duncan, in prospect of the word 'holocaust'. i can see you dont mean it the way many ppl will pick it up - as disrespectful - but i wonder how you do mean it.

This is about growing old. The lyrics are reminiscing (I never could spell that word) about the past, when they were young. I presume the "magnets" to just by symbolic of the fact that they grew up in an urban area. The chorus of "The grass was greener" etc, is basically saying that everything was better in the past.

At least, that's how I always took it.

you know not all lyrics are supposed to have meanings...REM, red hot chili peppers and nirvana have material that make NO sense at all. michael stipe from rem once said that he sometimes wrote down whatever came to his mind. though these three great bands have LOTS of material that make sense.
