Me and the manager broke one out to see what all the hype was about at work the other day.
The f'rildo: Hyper Control actually works! Better than Novation's automap, even. Downside: Can NOT reprogram it = bad. Plus using the faders as faders would be OK, if it weren't for their "virtual viscosity" whatever the fuck. Basically, this makes the faders feel like you're pushing them through peanut butter until you start moving them faster, then they loosen up and slide easier. I think this may have been added to counteract the extremely short fader throw (like 40 mm or so,) however, it didn't work because the latching point is indeterminate from setting to setting and just ended up pissing us both off.
Summary: If you're looking for something that will simply work fresh out of the box with whatever DAW you're using and aren't a huge tweak head guy who likes to reprogram, it'll be awesome. If you're looking for DAW control and tweak-ability, I'd look into Novation's line. It may take some extra time to map out, but well worth it.
