m160 Ribbon..I DID IT!

finally I've recorded some guitars for you guys ustilizing the m160

here's the track with the sm57

57 only

and here it is in combination with the m160:

57+160

I like the way it smoothens out things...
needs a bit of high/low-shelf though (at least with close micing due to the strong proximity effect)


I wouldn't use it all the time (I'm liking a 57 on its own), but sometimes it can be really nice (even louder than it is in this example....or, if not highgain but crunch or clean even on its own)

It does smooth stuff out nicely. I think for metal I like the 57 by itself more though.

yep, for fast and thrashy stuff I like the 57 by itself as well, but for held chords and slower stuff it's also good for highgain.

crunch and clean is where it really shines though

What configuration was the pair in? Straight on? On/off axis? Different speakers? DETAILS, MAN!

Honestly, I like the brighter top of the 57 own it's own. If I was doing a Kyuss record, the m160 would be the way to go, though.
