Yes, i said PC + Mac hardware working together, via MacDrive.

Someone once told me they go to sleep after a while. I've searched seagate's website for a while and can't find any info on the the drive. it looks to be an older model number (9y7685-500), and all the drives now use a new number system so I get 0 returns for a model number search.

So, does anyone have experiance with these drives? Do they go to sleep? if so, can i disable that feature? I don't have a mac so seagate's utilities won't even see the thing, but MacDrive does allow me to transfer files and format the drive.

sleep mode shouldn't be any problem. as long as you use the drive frequently it will not go to sleep mode. On the other hand it should wake up when you select it from the explorer. At least this was how it workes for me with my drives.

Sleepmode can often be disabled in the BIOS. Also other HD related stuff is in there. But I don't know if this is also the case for USB/FW hardware.

A good thing would be to format the drive with FAT if you're not going to use it with a mac anyway. Make sure you have a backup of your data before formatting.

Thanks for the replies. I think i figured most of my problems out. I also think that MacDrive software isn't perfect. i installed it on my pc and it screwed up and locked the machine to where i had to do a hard reset.
