Movingo to Mac

lookup wacVST if you're adventurous.

cubase 5 on OS X is pretty good, very stable since switching from carbon to cocoa (programming thing), but you might get shunned by mac-purists, who hate all that isn't logic, or pro tools.. aha.

to be honest, if you can get around logic's somewhat different way of work (very pro-tools like), it might be worth using it.

but i do like cubase..

thanks,

On a side note, I gather you've been using Reaper on Mac pretty regularly Adam - how's the stability? (and what OS are you running?)

Running Reaper 3.41pre13 right now (download it, it FINALLY fixes all that annoying overlap stuff we have been complaining about for years) on 10.6.2. Works like a charm, never crashes unless I do something stupid like try and render 8 PodFarm tracks at once that are all made up of about 800 little chopped up guitar parts

say whaaaaaaaaa!?!?!?!?!?!

they finally fixed the overlap bullshit! Hooray!!!!!

Now just another couple of years and it'll all be great :p

Most of the good free/cheap Mac stuff seems to be AU, like the AirWindows stuff (which is awesome)...

What plugins are you looking for exactly? I can probably suggest a bunch as a primarily Mac VST guy myself...

I really hate this whole thing, I'm moving to Mac because it's more stable, our PC died in the middle of tracking an album, already lost 3 days and lots of money due to it. But the main thing here is, why should there be any difference between Mac VST and Windows VST? Both of them are VST right? Shouldn't the DAW be able to load it up? And I'm going to keep on going with Cubase 5, will only move if it's for Protools HD and that wont be anywhere near soon.
I'm sorry about these noob questions, I had a macbook pro a lot of years ago but never used any audio in it so I'm a complete noob with Daw's and audio in mac.

Yes I know, but since it's a VST, I thought it could work because I know Logic works with AU's, Cubase only with VST's, so basically only MAC Vsts, no AU's for Cubase then? :/ bleh

All of that is up to the developers to implement.
It's the same reason why Sonar doesn't run on Mac, even though its probably coded in C++, same as a lot of Mac apps, Because the developers won't port it to the different OS and support it.

the problem is that most of the freeware VSTs are coded by Windows Code-Kiddies who have either never touched a Mac or simply have no interest in porting their code over and supporting it, which is of course their decision entirely.

The huge majority of Commercial plugins have Mac VST available though.

If its any comfort, about 2 years ago I moved from an All-Freeware (with Reaper) PC setup to Mac, Logic and some Commercial plugins and I don't miss anything from the free PC stuff.

Is there any particular plugins that you definitely need for your work?
