not to its government of course, but to the people there who are still showing the balls to protest and speak out against their "leadership", even when they know shit's going to end up like this:

the title to the thread is misleading... maybe "mad props to the iranian people" would work better.

but yes, i agree... they have huge brass balls to stand up for what they believe in, knowing full well that they'll probably get arrested, shot, beaten to death or jailed and tortured indefinitely. or some combination thereof. twice i've been in 3rd world countries where we ended up leaving a few months before martial law was enacted or a coup took place. i'm thankful i've never had to go thru such a crazy time, but we truly take so much for granted here in the US.

now all we need is another pretty speech from obama, which fixes everything

But it makes me wonder, how does the government there stay in effect. Surely ~75 million people can topple a government of around 10 000 people? Hell, even a 1 million strong true believer government + their pets.

I'm pretty right wing and am not the first to protest, but I support these people 100% for standing up against such a criminal regime. You know what Torniojaws, I think eventually the regime isn't going to be able to handle it and a real coup might ensue in the future...probably not for a while though.

Ahmadinejad = epic fail.

the pics above show how they do it. they use fear and violence (as well as religion) to keep their populace in control and in poverty, while being one of the riches oil nations on the planet. if they shot up the first batch of protestors and arrested friends/relatives at the funerals, most wouldnt think of gathering anymore. well, at least thats what the gov't hopes.

+1 Joe. + mother fucking 1.

this is exactly why i can't help but be inspired by seeing them still protesting - they absolutely know that they're going to get fucked up every time they take to the streets, yet they're continuing to do so time and time again

even the fact that they're openly and defiantly speaking out against their religious and government leaders shows how much has changed there in a very short time

fuck yea dude

the cracks in their oppressive regime are really starting to show, and IMO it will only be a matter of time until shit falls apart there

i doubt any of the nations of the mideast will be adopting secular governments soon, but likely ones where the emphasis is more on governing and less on pushing religious ideals down people's throats

those guys in that picture deserve serious respect.

ftw.

I'd never condone the actions of violence to solve a problem, and I do feel sorry for those police officers / army simply doing their job - but if the ideal of peace and a "normal" government and state can be brought about, then I say that people like those dudes should be commended for standing up and being counted.

Doing their jobs?? Dude, they've shot and killed a bunch of unarmed protestors in the streets, whacked the shit out of them with their batons, etc. etc. simply for them speaking out against the mullahs & Ahmadenijad and his cronies.

Basically, if you aren't a believer in the Iranian revolution or the Islamic state, and have something to say about it, you are a target there.

I completely agree, but if they will do that to their citizens - what will they do to those that do not conform within their government services (behind closed doors)?

I've read the news, and I have some friends living in the Middle East - so I know what goes on there isn't all government vs people. It's internal too.

As you said, anyone who doesn't believe is a target - so why wouldn't they put pressure on their services to do their bidding, regardless?

Well, I'm inclined to think that anyone joining the revolutionary guard knows what they are about and what they are getting themselves into!

thats a good sign and chances are it will succeed. the people are fighting for freedom and their country, the government are fighting for power. people over power always win unless someone brings a nuke into the picture.

so as we say in ireland : Tiocfaidh ár lá - Our day will come and believe me it will. I have a great deal of respect for people who fight for a cause they are willing to die for. it shows true spirit in a fight for freedom in humans

I can only hope you're right dude! (in reply to J Davis)

I fear that a stable job in a country like that would tempt anyone, including the nice ones.
Let's hope that the country pulls themselves into some form of government before the people REALLY revolt and shit does south quicker than it is now.

Yeah, I see your point. I'm sure there are some people just looking for some work. The mullahs still have plenty of support in Iran, however. I'm sure some of those cops are guilty.

The current regime is a cancer, no doubt. They have supplied weapons to terrorists in Iraq as well as Hamas in Gaza. They think Israel is a "stinking corpse" and would love to see them wiped off the map. It's truly sickening.

-Joe

Oh, I also find it insane that after they revealed that the existence of their hidden nuclear facility, they announced that they have ambitions to build TEN MORE! It's sort of a slap in the face to Obama, because they know he isn't really saying much against them right now. Slaps on the wrist will only go so far.

Actually that was a bullshit quote.

And its not as if the Israeli government aren't a bunch of shysters, terrorists and racists anyway.
