Manowar Saturday in Worcester?

Allow me to sum up... other bands play... Manowar kills.

Honestly, it's hard to review a show like this. It comes with a ton of bias. Whenever people say a band is great live, they typically do so with a lot of prejudice. It's just difficult to discount the appreciation you hold for a band, before the first chord is struck. And if that band has in their set list, a dozen of your favorite all-time songs, they're at a massive advantage. If those songs are also nostalgic... massive bonus points. Now add in a crowd that was beyond just normal fans, but insane fans, and you have an explosive combination.

To give you some insight into the type of fans you're dealing with, when Joey did his mid-set rant, he asked, "How many of you traveled from another country?" At least 100 people screamed out. When he asked how many of you traveled from another state?", nearly the entire venue screamed. That level of devotion is something special.

All in the all, the band was very tight, the sound was good, the set list was excellent, Eric sounded great, and the venue was cool. As you would expect, the pit was intense, but very respectful. Simply stated, I had a blast.

I'd love to know the set list, but am really bad with that sort of thing.

The sound is hit or miss at the Palladium (mostly miss). Glad it was a kickass show. I wouldnt have gone for $75... just too rich for my blood these days. I saw them when they came with Rhapsody, and that was a killer combo.

The setlist is amazing.
I would be 100% content with it, and Battle Hymns isn't even a favorite of mine.

Herz Aus Stahl alone would be worth the price of admission.

Black Wind Fire and Steel live is intense as all hell.
Too bad no Wheels of Fire.

Wish I had checked the forum so we could have met up. I did run into fellow PPUSA attendees Greg and Paula Hasbroucks, Greg's brother, and Matt Vicente. I also saw a couple from behind and the wife was wearing the XI blue shirt, so I went up to see if it was anyone I knew. It wasn't, so I introduced myself to them and they said XI was their first time. But they had a great experience in Atlanta.

I think I know already. Greg is Zod. I always thought Zod lived closer to NYC and was someone I just never met, not South Jersey where he is from.

I totally get what you are saying, but the truth is that MANOWAR are in a position where they don't need to worry about the fans who WOULDN'T pay more than $25 to see them, since their US appearances are exclusive enough where a $75 show will sell out no problem. They created that situation themself by NOT oversaturating the US market these past 10 years as underground metal grew in popularity again here......

No one can deny their business skillz.........

I always check their site for shows and it never had a "sold out" banner like they put on sold out shows.

show notes: Definitely the loudest show I have EVER been to! I wore ear plugs and it didn't help at all. The whole Palladium was shaking!

The crowd was totally pumped for this show. Manowar stopped playing during Kings of Metal because people were crowd surfing. Joey went on a little rant telling people to "cut that shit out!" lol..and they restarted the song.

They played for 2 hours straight. Awesome show!!

No it didn't. While on line, we got our drinking wristbands from an employee who was walking down the line checking ID's. So I asked the guy and he said the place held 2,000 people, but that they had closed the balcony because it hadn't sold out. He mentioned that about 1,200 people would fit in the bottom, and seemed to indicate that he expected it to be full. It was pretty full.

What's the difference? They still drew over 1,000 @ $75, which is a heck of a lot more $$$$ than if they sold out @ $25 or $30 a pop.

Not to be a jerk, but you missed my point entirely if the main thing you are concerned about with the ticket price is whether or not it sold out.

Yeah, if only 300 people showed up, then I would certainly say ticket price was a factor. In this day and age and economy, drawing over 1,000 @ $75 a pop indicates that Manowar's undersaturation of the US market these past 10 years was indeed a good business move.

Who knows? We'll see if long term this is encouragement enough to do a full US tour.

A guy my brother and I know from high school worked for MANOWAR as their motorcycle tech (not sure if he still does or not). We last saw him when they were on tour with Immortal in 2002 or whenever that was. He was telling us that both the band and crew had little interest in touring the US, as they had done it so many times with very little increase each time in turn out.

I suppose they were onto something, considering how massive their European fanbase has become in the past 10 years, and the crowd size they draw.

Hopefully they will consider a full scale US jaunt in the near future.

When Joey went into his rant at the end of the show, he referenced the fact that everyone on the Manowar Facebook page is asking them to come to their respective cities/states. I don't recall his response word for word, but to paraphrase, he said the Manowar fans in Worcester that night traveled from other cities/states/countries to see Manowar , so when all the "greedy promoters" in other cities/states see people travelling to Massachusetts and they will see all the money they are "missing out on" to buy their "cocaine, champagne and caviar", they will bring Manowar to their city/state/country. (hope that made sense! LOL) He also said that Manowar would definitely be back in Worcester in the future.

I'm so unbelievably jealous that I wasn't able to travel and see this. They're one of the few on my bucket list right after Saxon and King Diamond.

I don't listen to Manowar. Don't own an album and can't even name a song by them. Not even sure I have ever heard a song by them.

I don't know their fanbase and how big is their following.

I was just wondering if it was a sell out or not, that's all.

If it was free, I wouldn't have gone anyways.
