Yes, the 2210 and 2205 have a diode clipping stage too.

Then again, most people here use a TS in front of a tube amp which also uses diode clipping so I don't think diode clipping itself would mean that it sounds bad.

However: a 900 dual reverb sounds like shit on the gain channel and a 2210 sounds great on the gain channel!

the dsl has diode clipping too (iirc) and thats sounds way better than the dual reverb
 
Not true!

The 2210/05 do have diodes in the preamp (at the channel switch) but they're not used for clipping. On the contrary, they (probably z-diodes) are used for voltage regulation to actually PREVENT unwanted clipping at following stages.

Nah they actually are bounding diodes. I believe they are there to make symmetrical/asymmetrical clipping for the stage.

There is also a bridge rectifier with another diode bounding it in the signal path, I have no idea what that does. Probably smooths out the clipping? Clamps or something? I really need to read up on SS stuff....
