Marshall MX412 tone test

MetalJonesy

more metal, more booze!!!
Well picked up one of those Marshall MX412 cabs the other week and finally got round to putting it under the mic.

Its almost identical in size to the 1960A, infact a little deeper. The only downside is the MDF construction, which doesn't bother me really.

The speakers are Celestion G12E-60, which IMO sound much better than the stock 1960A speakers:

"The G12-60 is a custom made Celestion speaker that's very similar to a Vintage 30. Our opinion is the G12-60 is slightly warmer/darker than a stock Vintage 30 Guitar Speaker. The G12-60 has excellent low end response with smooth top end sparkle. Some of our staff members have said "this speaker sounds like a Vintage 30 that has been nicely broken in."

The test was done with my Yammy with SD Distortion Pup > TS9 > 6505 mic'd with an SM57 on the edge of the dome/come join and also bang on centre.

All the post processing on it are filters at 75Hz and 13.29KHz and a Limiter just to bring the level up

Let me know your thoughts!!!

Great tone! Ideed they are a LOT darker than v30. In fact I think that center was 10x better than edge.
BTW, would you mind reupping those DIs?
Cheers dude!

Yeah, I dig the EQ balance of the center one better, but I find the attack a bit too harsh. Hard to judge when it's not in a full mix. Either way, both sound great and have potential. What kinda settings did you have on the Peavey?
