Marshalls for CARCASS

That's a JCM 2000 TSL in that video. Two rows of knobs, but not across the whole face of the amp like the new JVMs.

Honestly, I don't get the "love the DSL/hate the TSL" thing. They sound pretty similar, assuming they're properly biased with decent tubes and dialed in right. They've got more bottom (and a lot more gain) than the older (JCM 800/JMP MV) Marshalls, but they're muddier in the low mids and not as aggressive to my ears.

I really dont agree with that. Sure they they share that marshally voicing, but i gotta say that the dsl is much more raw, bigger and less compressed sounding to me. The eq section works about the same but the crunch channel to me on the dsl is just way more old school marshall than the tsl, it reminds alot of a great 800. The tsl didnt do that for me.

Green/crunch on the DSL is the best thing about the JCM 2000 series. I'll agree there. The TSL can't really get that sound. (I had a TSL and a JMP 2204, and I A/Bed them. The TSL's crunch channel can't get there.) I think the lead channels on both cover pretty similar sonic ground, though. They're not my first choice, but with the bass and mids up, the treble and presence down (and those deep and tone shit switches off) they'll do alright cranked up. They're pretty crap at low volumes, but most things that say "Marshall" on them are. (I've heard the master volume on the JVM is good, but I haven't played one so I can't say for sure.)

correction...you can clearly see Bill's rig at 00:32 and Mike's at 02:14-15 in this other clip
Bill looks like he's using the DSL or TSL or JVM and Mike has what looks like the original SLX. Surprised they aren't using the 5150's with the original guv'nor pedals in front as stated years ago before they disbanded ...either way, they still sound great...Carcass is back!:kickass:

Yeah, Bill's is a TSL. Mike's is a JCM 900 with a RAT in front of it, most likely. That was his rig for the Necrotosism and Heartwork tours. I used to talk to Mike online a lot. To my knowledge, he never owned an SLX, but still owns his old JCM 900. BTW, the 5150/Guv'nor thing was VERY brief, just following Swansong. Heartwork was all 5150 in tracking, but they still played their 900/RAT rigs on that US Tour with Death. And Mike always used a RAT pedal, not a Guv'nor. He told me that himself.

They look great again, at last Ken has lost that spaz with a short haircut look. Must say Bill looks a bit bored though.

That's not Ken Owen. That's Daniel of Arch Enemy. Ken hasn't been able to play drums in almost a decade.

Ken can barely play anymore since his brain hemorrhage. IIRC, it's Daniel from Arch Enemy on drums. While I don't think it's entirely a charity thing (touring being expensive and metal not being a big revenue generator) part of the Carcass gigs are for Ken's benefit.

actually Mike has been using a digitech pre into what ever amp the festivals are supplying recently.

Ahh... Makes perfect sense now. They are just playing through whatever back line is available for these festivals, and that's why you see Marshalls on stage. Most fest organizers don't realize that the majority of metal bands play Peavey, Mesa, and Randall these days. They rent a bunch of Marshalls because they are household name.

I haven't checked out that Digitech. I've still got a 2120 and 2112 sitting here and I hate them both, haha. but they work fine for scratch tracks, etc.

Yeah its def a Marshall TSL on Bill Steer side, Mike side I cant see but every show I have seen him at he has what ever he is endorsing on stage; and around the back he has his 5150 and providence switching unit and Crybaby rack Wah slaving into poweramps..

Fair play Carcass are sounding great1

yes thats it, with tube screamer and foot controller. He said he needed something he could transport easily for festivals that would give him same sound ever night at these fly in festival gigs. I doubt he was using this with randalls.
