I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for quality but not overly expensive Mastering studios. Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated, as I don't trust myself to do a decent job.
Well the doing yourself option is worth considering. A copy of t-racks can make the job pretty easy if you're carefull with it.
The easiest way to lower costs is to totally finish the product before they get it so they don't need to do anything other than the obvious. if they have to do any mixing it'll cost you more.
I may get T-Racks, as it sounds like a useful thing to have for many circumstances. As for the mastering engineers mixing any of my stuff, I can safely say that I will do all of the mixing, and they just have to do what little there is left to do.

if you do master yourself, I've found the best piece of advice is to cut just a little bit of your mid-frequency EQ on the final master...worked wonders for me.
