Should you master track ever be clipping before mastering? Because even when all of my individual channels in the project are not clipping and have a fair bit of headroom my master says it is clipping? is this normal, i know that once you apply a limiter the clipping will not be happening anymore but im just wondering whether you should be experiencing any clipping before you hit the limiter, any help will be appreciated

Oh dear... im not sure how everyone acheives such low volume on all of the tracks while still keeping loudness

If your tracks aren't clipping but your master is, it could either be from how loud you have the faders or if you use a lot of gain in your plugins. Loudness shouldn't be achieved from mixing, but from mastering.

I turned the gain down on my slate drums in kontakt from 0db to -6, this seemed to solve the problem and anyway when i load my sturgis cymbals into kontakt he seems to have already set them at -6. it seems to give them headroom?
