Masters of metal vocals

Simen Hestnæs,
the "old" singer in Borknagar,
just for the song "Colossus"....
He is waisting his tallent in Dimmu Borgir.

Mikael Åkefeldt in Opeth....
I love both his clean and growling vox.

Iced Earth's Matthew Barlow.
Either you love him, or you hate him.

Female vocalists...
Pretty much all the singers in some of
the decent gothbands out there....
Within temp, After Forever,
Tristania, The Sins of Thy..., etc.etc.

 Don't care much for vocals when there is  shredding guitars and   double bass pounding.
To chose one would be Blackie Lawless.

Mike Akerfeldt
Dan Swano
Hansi Kursch
Tom Englund
Daniel Glidenlow
Russel Allen

For female vocals...there aren't nearly enough women singing metal. Christina Scabbia, Tarja from Nightwish, Anneke from The Gathering are all very good, but I can't think of many more...

Thank god there was a reply like that. I mean how can ppl forget all those great vocalists you just mentioned? And I will continue the masters section:
John Cyriis of Agent Steel
Harry "the Tyrant" Conklin of Jag Panzer
Michael Kiske of Helloween (Keepers era)
John Arch of Fates Warning (3 first albums)
Ray Alder of Fates Warning (all next albums)
James Rivera of Helstar/Destinys End
The mighty DIO
Tim "the ripper" Owens of Winters Bane/Judas Priest
and of course last but in no way least
Myself.

As for the harsh ones there is one man who growls and makes me really happy: Chuck Shuldiner of Death.

Female:
I think I 'll pass this one.

The list is not complete.:heh:
I will (propably) return! :loco:

1. Aaron (My Dying Bride)

2. Dan Swanø, Mikael Åkerfeldt, Nick Holmes, James Hetfield, Dave Mustaine, Chuck Billy, John Tardy, Mikael Stanne, ....

it will be like listing all my favorite bands, then take away all members except the vocalists...I like 'em all...to me, the vocals are very important for liking a band...

Hey Metalmaster dude, come on!
How can you claim that James Hetfield for instanse i can sing any better than Geof Tate or so many others.
or how can you claim that AARON is any better than Warrell Dane and so many others. It is not about your favorites (if it were your answer would be unquestionably accepted), it is about the real tops of metal. Be objective (unless you have only listened to the ones you refer to).

Bruce Dickinson
Rob Halford
Warrel Dane
James LaBrie
Simen Hestnaes
Vintersorg
Garm
Jon Nödtveidt
Mikael Åkerfeldt
Dan Swanö
Vincent Cavanagh
Devin Townsend
Mikael Kiske
Hansi Kürsch
Steve Von Till
Jonas Renkse
David Vincent
Johan Lindstrand
Tompa Lindberg
Ozzy Osbourne

what is this, i saw Arjen from nightwish and Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth, but how come i didn't see any James Labrie (Dream Theater) or Ray Alder (Fates Warning). these guys can SING! they aren't just screaming theire brains out like geoff tate, they are actually hitting those high notes. as for death metal vocals, mikael akerfeldt is probably the best i've heard; its got a nice growl to it and he can sing clean pretty well also.

Look better mate! I surely voted for Ray... as for Labrie, well I don't think he can make it in!

There are plenty of KILLER vocalists around these days, Tate, Halford, Dickinson, Scheepers, Allen, Alder, Lande, to name a few. BUT, nobody, and I mean NOBODY delivers a song like Ronnie James Dio!!! That man has an AMAZING voice!!! His coloring and inflection are untouchable, IMO!
