Mastodon album stream

I'm kina getting a primordial vibe from that first track there. Not a bad thing at all, mind you. Already this is better than Crack the Skye. Here's hoping it stays a strong as this first track!

I'm about 17-18 minutes in now, and I'm really starting to think they peaked with Blood Mountain.

However, about halfway through here, it's starting to pick back up. Or it was, at least. "creature lives", is an extremely effective momentum-destroyer.. Wow. What a balls-awful track.

Band is going out this fall with DEP and Red Fang as well.

I don't really like Mastodon on record all that much (this one included, so far), but their shows have always been awesome, and even better, they pretty much do the best touring packages of any band in history. I've seen them with:

Cursive / Against Me! / Planes Mistaken for Stars (2007)
Pelican / Sweet Cobra / Cougars (2004)
Cephalic Carnage / Uphill Battle / Dysrhythmia (2003)
The Dillinger Escape Plan / Yakuza / Tub Ring (2002, when the roles were reversed and Mastodon was opening for DEP).

Those all would have been kickass shows even if Mastodon wasn't there.

So yeah, I'll definitely be seeing this tour, hopefully the douche parade hasn't crashed the party in the last 4 years.

Is Scott Kelly guesting on this one as well? I think he sang on the three discs of theirs. Also, someone said there's a female vocalist which I found interesting? Is that true?

You know, I never really thought about it, but they really do go out on some of the raddest packages ever.

However, I saw Mastodon 3 times on the CTS tour and honestly, it's the worst crowd I've ever seen at a show. Way too many dudes who can't hold their booze, people acting like assholes, etc.
