I've always had a crazy obsession with Neige. He is one of the most talented dudes to come out of the music scene in a looong time. So of course, his new album with Alcest, Les Voyages de L’Âme is almost silly. Silly in that it is yet another masterpiece in Neige's musical canon. There's something about the way he combines black metal with dreamy shoegaze and 80's new wave that, even after 3 albums (4 if you count the beautiful Amesoeurs self-titled debut), I never get bored. Dude seriously is a musical genius. Brb calling my album of the year for 2012.

Thank you so much. I still can't believe I missed Alcest playing 20 min away from my house at this little coffee-shop-like place (or was it a bar? Well, it was full of hipster anyways). I can't wait to listen to this, but need to finish Fair to Midland's Arrows & Anchors first.

Ecailles de Lune was one of my favorite albums of 2010. Great friggin band!

Alcest has announced a second leg to their previously announced spring tour with Deafheaven. The newly announced dates are as follows:

4/1 New Haven, CT @ Lily's Pad
4/2 Rochester, NY @ The Bug Jar
4/3 Pittsburgh, PA @ 31st Street
4/4 Columbus, OH @ Ace of Cups
4/6 Chicago, IL @ Reggies Rock Club
4/8 Lincoln, NE @ Duffy's Tavern
4/9 Denver, CO @ Larimer Lounge
4/11 Boise, ID @ The Shredder
4/12 Seattle, WA @ Highline
4/13 Portland, OR @ Someday Lounge
4/15 Los Angeles, CA @ Blue Cafe
4/19 Austin, TX @ Mohawk
4/21 Santurce, PR @ Red Shield Music Hall

Saw them last year, awesome to hear it live.

I haven't heard it much so it's not really clicking with me yet. It's not bad but nothing is really standing out.

But they're one of my favorite bands (see my Avatar) and I can't wait to see them for a 2nd time tomorrow.

they were awesome last night in Charlotte. Live mix was terrible, but that is not shocking at Tremont.

I didn't notice you there last night. Where about were you in the crowd?

Also I definitely agree that the mix was a bit off, but I had a great time nonetheless. I wish they would get a little more light on the rest of the guys. The main stage at Tremont is decent enough, but 'The Casbah' (small stage) sucks ass. :\

i was over on the bass player's side. sometimes standing on the wood seating over there and sometimes up front depending on what my back wanted to do. i was wearing the Def Leppard shirt.

and yes the lighting and sound was terrible that night. Deafheaven wanted the lights down and apparently the Tremont guys decided to leave them off for Alcest too. the small room is a blast to play in (having done it several times) but it never sounds good and most definitely never sounds good on stage either. tis a shame because Lisa is really nice there and it's only small club left in Charlotte for shows.

Deafheaven is seriously lame as shit....'black metal' for people who don't like black metal. They need to GTFO.

Alcest was good last Friday but played for too long. Speedwolf right after them destroyed. Also, Neige looks like Pocahontas.

I enjoyed Deafheaven, my complaint was the lack of lights. if want to watch a band in the dark i will listen to the CD. vocals could use some variation, but i get what they are going for. i don't consider them black metal in the slightest despite whatever the critics say. To me black metal is about looking a certain way, and they don't. sure they have black metal influences but black metal they are not.
