Mastodon Blood Mountain

Wonderful album. Their music is original and technical without becoming only a show of skills and losing energy and emotions.

exactly - I love this band - every member is so solid - the lyrical contect very interesting and unoriginal - vocals are great too

cepallarian crest is my favorite song... brann dailor is almost too technical in this song (gotta love that)

I dont get why people bash Mastodon's live show. When I saw them recently it was fucking perfect. Maybe they just had a really good night?

I wouldn't doubt that performance juice was the cause of the mess-ups that some people talk about.

I don't think mastodon are the saviors of rock or anything, they might be a tad overrated. Mastodon are great muscians and I respect them though. You can here oldschool rock infleunces,etc.... they seem to be blending different styles within rock music. They are a lot more musical than brutal death metal and typical breakdown hardcore metal/core bands right now.

I know, they played excellently here, so it wasnt a fluke.

you got good ears:kickass:

I have respect for Mastodon because they are very talented and a very unique band. However, they're not for me. A couple of songs are decent like March of the Fire Ants but other than that it's just too showoff for me. The polyrhythms are done really well, but it's a little too much sometimes; I'd rather have a solid backbeat and double bass than some jazzy/progressive polyrhythm all over the place. That's just me...I'm a headbanger. Mastodon is not the type of band you would headbang to, unless your head is on a swivel. To each his own, but I'll take Opeth and Novembre over Mastodon any day.

The only Mastodon I've heard so far is some video I saw a few years ago. I'll probably listen to more eventually.

Anyone see Metal Hammer's review describing Blood Mountain as "the album of the decade"? What bollocks.

I think Mastodon are better playing balls-out metal than when they try to be melodic/atmospheric, which is why I think 'The Wolf is Loose' is the best song on the new album. Usually I'm all for experimentation/technicality/progressiveness but I just want Mastodon to go out and try to make the most vicious, flat out metal album they can so I can drool at Brann Dailor's drumming.

But for the most part their sounds lacks bottom end and the vocals are so bad as to almost ruin their entire albums.

I love the vocals in Mastodon, they're nice and understated, and there's no gay-ass choruses.

I can understand why they're getting the hype they're getting; they've managed to blend old and new school really well with no cheese, and there are lots of different aspects and dynamics to their music. Why would you want them to go all one-dimensional?

The vox in Leviathan were much better than BM. In Blood Mountain they sounded like just glutteral wails.
