Mastodon - Crack the skye :-0

I never did either until I read an interview with Brann where he explained that. There's obviously more to the album but that's a huge part of it i think.

what interview is this? I haven't seen/read an interview since right after it came out, where they were just saying "its metaphors about issues that we deal with in our personal lives and the title is dedicated to brann's sister"

It was in metal hammer magazine. As far as I know the article is only in that magazine, but I did find a little exerpt.

“The whole story is my metaphor for if I’d been able to come in and pick her up and save her from that situation, so yeah it’s a sad thing but I don’t want it to be this pity party for me. Everybody experiences loss. At some point in your life you will lose someone near and dear to you and I’m lucky enough to have some kind of artistic platform to immortalise it, to have some kind of tribute. We owe it as artists to come from the deepest place possible; that’s art.”

i thought blood mountain was one of the most epicly dissapointing albums id ever heard at the time
pretty much lost all faith in them

??

??

??

i fucking love blood mountain, without a doubt one of my fav. albums of this decade

well compared to all their previous work it just felt like a big fat musicianfest
it's a very impressive album to listen to, but it doesnt really make me feel anything and therein lies the root of the problem
thats why i dig crack the skye and have some respect for them again. managed to ease up on the prog for long enough to actually deliver a big ol plate of emotion.

Dodo, you little tosser - chill out. Read my post again, tongue was firmly in cheek and the whole first paragraph reeked of sarcasm . Stop acting like a little 17 year old girl, no need for a direct attack, I'd happily say what I posted to your face, can you say the same about what you said.

Seriously mate, its just a sign of immaturity to fly off on one like that and take offense at any passing comment, so grow up a bit mate. Be subjective like I was - give an opinion - don't be an utter cock and attack me. I think what I've said is reasonable - I don't want to argue with you. In fact, if I had acted like you had, I'd probably just swallow my pride and just say sorry.

Sorry to take this off topic.

yeah i later realised that your post was meant pretty tongue in cheek like, deleting the post was on my to-do list.

I think the production is only good for this band because it has a vibe about it, very lively natural drums, slightly muddy guitars, very vintage warm sounding vocals. It fits the band so well because the production fits the vibe, just on its own, or without a band as incredible as mastodon, it would be merely very good. All my opinion of course.

^Yeh, if Megadeth had gone for the mastodon vibe...it almost certainly wouldn't have suited that album as much as what Andy did. I think I'm a bit biased because my own band is very prog in places and I've also grown a little bit tired of 5150s tearing new arseholes with their heavy tones and snares and kicks so brutal your face implodes. Obviously still appreciate that shit but I'm just feeling hippy vibes recently :kickass:
