Does anyone have experience using the current May Internal Mic mounts?

It seems the system has come a long way from the flat mics of the 80's and 90's.

Yeah it makes the drums look clean. I like the look of it.
But I'd hate to cut a hole in my drums.
I'm not sure if any (metal) albums have been recorded with the usage of the MAY internal micing system.
I know Matt McDonough (freakin' great drummer!) of Mudvayne uses them, he had them connected to the rig on the latest M album, but there were also MD421's on the toms...so we'll never know if they were used in anyway..

Actually the new system doesn't require any cutting or drilling.

tried them with exodus actually, personally I didn't like the tone inside the drum.

Thanks. That is all I need to know. The shit is rather expensive anyhow.

I haven't inspected them closely but it appears you run a modified (smaller) xlr cable from the mount and out of the air hole.

Then how does the air come out of the drums....

I think the cable is much thinner than a typical xlr. Honestly, I don't know for sure.

Just had to do a mixdown with some in-tom mics.

Completely sucked!

The drummer built them with some sm57 capsules.

The floor toms sounded ok, but the higher toms sounded like an old fashioned drum machine.

Fortunately I had the demo version of drumagog, so I made a midi track of the toms and used DFH on it. :headbang:

btw. drumagog is killer!!!!

got to say, the latest build of drumagog, 4.02 i think works really good. Seems really tight. Has anyone managed to get the midi out working in Pro Tools yet????

The midi is working in Qbase, but everyone probally knows that.
I'm hoping on receiving my PT LE soon...

Weird thing for me is with the new Drumagog update it uses probally 200% more CPU usage then it did before..

it really taxes your computer that hard huh? that is a real bummer. i was going to do the update but maybe i will wait. andy can you confirm the updated version is harder on the cpu usage?

I guess this sort of relates to such a micing technique: how have people found the sound of a kit to be without the resonant head attatched on toms and/ or kick. I know some people say its a very "80's" thing to do, but how does the sound change?
