Measures / road trips taken to see AA live.

Seeing how Gnoff is going to USA for total of four days to see AA play 3 live shows inspired this thread. He had to be drunk when making that airfare reservation and then it was too late ;) .

What insane lengths/measures did you go through to see AA play live and what interesting stories came along/out of it?

One of mine was flying to Chicago somewhat unprepared without anything except clothes on my back and the wallet in my pocket next to my rocket. Left Saturday morning, did some sight seeing around Chicago that day before heading to the venue. Had a great time drinking / banging / talking with guys and listening Oli sound out the riffs of what would become PoV. Did not make a hotel reservation earlier and later on chickend out to take the subway back to the airport at 1 am. Fortunatelly I met some guys at the show from Detroit that were nice enough to take me to the airport to which we of course got lost on the way to. Ended up in really shitty / rough neighborhood asking for directions. Made out alive and got droped off at 3am, took uncomfortable 3 hour nap on the airport bench and managed to catch ealier flight back home.

Was back home in under 29 hours with memories for life. Good times.

I have a few.......Went to Europe in 2004 just to see Amon for the first time at Wacken. Got backstage and hung with the guys.

January 2008 Saw the guys come to Aus for the first time. Went to Adelaide/Sydney/Melbourne shows
July 2008 went to Europe again to catch up with the guys at Metalcamp then crash at Freds house in Sweden for a few days
December 2009 I think they came back to Australia. Flew to Sydney again to watch them play and Melb shows.

A lot of fucking around but well worth it.

lucky for me they play alot in Germany, so I didnt HAVE to travle far to see them... But we (my wife and I) had an absolute Epic trip to Sweden for a week to see them in Gothenborg and Stockholm... met a bunch of friends had a great time!!!

I'm going to Germany from Morocco to see them in Munich and Metalfest, that would be my first AA show ever, couldn't afford it before but now i gathered the money (even though i'm not sure it would be enough) and i'm going to see them \,,/
will tell u my full story after that ;)

All the way from Morocco? Not bad, that's not the shortest travel ;)

My longest journey to see AA up to date is the Travel to Bochum. Yeah that's not so far I know but I guess about 500km are enough to be mentioned

By the way...just 6 more days then we can finally see these shows! Sweet memories...

actually from Morocco to Germany is not that far, but the most difficult thing is to get the visa, it took me more than a month to get it and a lot, a lot of money. but yeah i'm proud of what i'm gonna do :P , i remember from an earlier thread that u, Thimon, are going to Metalfest Germany, hope to see u there ;)

and yeah only 4 days to get those shows, i've been waiting for'em since they announced they were gonna play the four first albums, unfortunately i coudn't go :s

I went to Bochum, all 4 days. I travelled alone from Holland, made some friends during my stay :)
Also, I went to Sweden to stay at gnoff's place for a week, saw 3 shows there and we had a little Bochum reunion !!

I remember the first time I saw Amon Amarth was at Jaxx in Springfield VA. After driving 6 hours to Springfield and 3 hours getting lost in what I presume was greater Northern Virginia, I finally made it in time to see Ensiferum. To make matters worse, the bear pelt kept falling off because I had not yet learned how to adjust it properly...all was made well when the band signed it after the concert. The friend with whom I was going to stay got into a car accident that day, so I caught some sleep behind a gas station somewhere off I81, and drove back the next morning still tired.

Hasn't happened yet, but...I'm going to school in Montreal, but AA haven't scheduled any dates around here. But they are playing about a hundred yards from my house back home. On the date of the show I'll be back in Boston, but a bunch of my friends in Montreal are gonna drive down for the show. About 6-8 hours, depending on traffic and assuming no trouble at the border.
Other than that, both times I've seen AA I've had to wander around Worcester at night, basically inviting people to stab me. Not particularly exciting.

Tell me when you move to Montreal, we'll have beers if I passed there.

You got to meet me as well. I think my first comment was that I wanted to buy your OSFTG shirt. Then we figured out we "knew" each other from the forum. I met Tomasz, Belgar and some other dudes as well.

yes they were, as was this evening :)

Those were the days ...

Took a greyhound bus from Philadelphia to Milwaukee to catch them at the Milwaukee metalfest in 2001 i believe it was their first time in the states. They were drunk as shit and still sounded great also had a chance to talk to Johan about beers.

The farthest I've traveled is Southern CT- Worcester, which really isn't that bad. I think it's like 100 minutues. I missed a track meat to go once. Nothing compared to a lot of you guys.

I think if/when I go to the Boston show this spring it'll be a little more than two hours each way.

The longest I've ever gone for a single concert (not AA) and gone back the same night was when I tried to go to New York. I missed my train from New Haven, walked the wrong way from the train station at first, and then got to the concert like an hour after it started (it was 1 band), but got in for free, and then walked back to the train station, took it back to new haven, and then drove home. I think it was something like 9 hours of traveling for less than an hour of music. It wasn't that far in distance either, just terrible traffic and travel plans.
