MEGADETH announce final album and global farewell tour 2026

"The beast that is heavy metal has sunk its teeth into youthful fans and musicians for decades. It continues to be a fountain of youth for those of us who collect more birthdays than we'd like to. Somewhat surprisingly, metal god Dave Mustaine announced late last year that this self-titled MEGADETH album will be the band's last. This farewell album proves to be an endearing, inspiring and dignified goodbye from one of the most influential powerhouses in metal history..."

A lot of people dissing RTL on line. Seems they expected a 60 year old Dave to release a carbon copy cover of a 40 year old song he wrote and was released by someone else.

Obviously it's going to be different to Metallica, Obviously Dave's voice sounds different. Makes me wonder if some of these people aren't Taylor Swift fans with nothing else to do.

Agree, Some people are just unhappy knuckleheads with no imagination. They should enjoy it for what it is and fuggitaboutit.

I'm enjoying it quite a lot. More aligned to the band's middle era I dig - Youthanasia, The World Needs a Hero, and Countdown (my fav of theirs). I'd perhaps rank the new album just above The System Has Failed (the last one I cared for). I liked 'The Scorpion', but that album has a bit of lamer rock as well. The new one is more consistently energetic.

So yeah, best Megadeth album since The World Needs a Hero for me. Now I'm revisiting the 6 albums in a row I disliked to see if my opinion's changed at all. I don't think it has though. It's hard to explain, but I'm listening to Endgame and I just don't like the production for one thing. Dunno if it's the EQ or what, but it tempts my brain to tune out and leave it as a sort of rumbling background/elevator music. Whereas the new album seems to have the vocals & leads there and crisp and not dampened by the lower frequencies, actually sounding like a favourite band I want to pay attention to again. Weird!

I was hoping to hear Dave use more of his trademark sneer on the RTL cover - that would've made that worthwhile for me.

MEGADETH’s Final Album Debuts At #1 In The US

MEGADETH – “Nobody’s Hero” Bonus Track Available For Download For 6 Days Only

"... Dave Mustaine -
Nobody’s Hero’ was the first song we worked on during the session, which is funny because it didn’t end up on the album. Everything we’d written up to that point had to fight for a place on the record. Some riffs were replaced by better ones. Some songs never quite got finished, and others rose to the top. ‘Nobody’s Hero’ has been around for a while and it really shows how quickly we found our groove once we got into the studio, so I’m glad it’s finally going to see the light of day in our exclusive digital release.

Both Blabbermouth and Metal Injection this morning were running with the heading about Dave's releasing a solo album.
In both articles he clearly states "maybe, but probably not" but they still both ran with their headlines.
