Melodic death is a genre I can enjoy. There' a lot of crap out there, but some good stuff. One reason I dislike most of the genre is because the obvious lack in the drumming department. Most bands have very very subpar, predictable, uninspired drumming, it's almost disgusting. So great melodeath (not death metal with melody) drummers? There's the obvious ones like the Arsis and Quo Vadis drummers and the At the Gates drummer does his thing. What else?

Wait, you think SOTS-era At The Gates has outstanding (to you) drumming?! It is mainly all straightforward snare beats in a pseudo-thrash style...

I recommend Detonation - Portals To Uphobia.

No, I say he does his thing, as in he isn't total shit like most mdm drummers. His drumming isn't put to the background and he does some interesting things. He's actually a great drummer for mdm standards.

Thanks for the recommendation.
